punk is dead.

okay, that’s a clickbait title — i know it’s not.

punk is not dead, but it is frustrating, especially as somebody from a small town in the middle of the uk. nobody around me is punk, nobody around me especially cares about politics, and everybody is ignorant. it feels like i’m just fighting an uphill battle — constantly. with everything going on in the world right now, with the uk becoming more right-wing than ever, with the entire online world becoming more right-wing, it’s exhausting.

homophobia is everywhere, racism is everywhere, transphobia is everywhere, death is everywhere, and i feel hopeless — i can’t do anything about it. it’s not a one-person job, but nobody else seems to be doing anything about it either. there’s no protests, no organising, no nothing. it almost feels like we’ve lost community — soul — connection with each other. yes, there’s subreddits and forums for punks, but how many of those are actually doing something? planning something that matters?

all the in-fighting i see in online spaces nowadays just proves my point, especially in queer and trans spaces, and especially on twitter. nobody is kind. nobody is understanding. even in leftist spaces, you say something that could be misconstrued because you’re uneducated, and you’re immediately ostracised by most of the commenters and quotes. nobody is patient. nobody is guiding. nobody wants to educate, they just want to project their hatred and dissatisfaction of the world onto somebody that doesn’t know any better instead of fucking doing something about it. and i hate it.

this was honestly more of a vent on how stupid people are nowadays than anything else i guess. but if you’re a punk and you’re from the uk — or just anywhere, really — please friend request me! i need more punk mates. other alternative people are cool too, just as long as you’re not a prick.
