Honestly, this is a subject I always wanted to address.
Social media has such power over our everyday lives, from the most obvious to the most trivial parts of it, especially when it comes to how others perceive us.
"How to be boy pretty" or "How can people be so fat" are some examples of sentences that I see again and again on Tik Tok and Instagram. They focus so much on the appearance of others and their own that they completely ignore the fact that looks is the least important thing you should prioritize when meeting someone. I can be the most "beautiful" girl on planet earth and still have a bad personality.
Even though beauty is a subjective thing, they put a huge amount of emphasis on that word it has lost its meaning between the millions of reels and videos that are being posted everyday. They make people feel insecure about parts of their body that are completely natural and making the impression that whatever looks "not normal" should be hidden under layers of clothing or tons of makeup, instead of helping everyone embrace their features and characteristics that make them unique and different.
In the end of the day, if your friends or romantic interest are commenting poorly on your appearance and you know that's not part of their humor, maybe they are not the best people you could hang out with and it's way better trying to find new ones that accept you for who you are. Downgrading commentary about another individual's appearance only shows how insecure the person commenting is.
In my opinion, everyone should realize that IT'S OKAY TO BE DIFFERENT.
