Say what you will about astrology, it has stuck around for thousands of years. Today, millions still check their horoscopes, study birth charts, and ask, “What’s your sign?” For many, astrology feels accurate, like the stars are revealing hidden truths. Sadly though, the heavens aren’t steering our lives. But why does it feel so real?
The short answer in the words of Shakespearean Julius Caesar: "fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves"
Astrology thrives on vague, relatable language. Statements like “You seek connection but need independence” sound personal, but they apply to almost anyone. We tend to believe flattering, general statements are uniquely true for us (Barnum effect).
Add to that confirmation bias, once I think astrology works, I remember the “hits” and forget the misses. A Leo (me) may embrace being confident and ignore being labeled stubborn.
Then there’s sheer complexity. Beyond your sun sign, you have a moon sign, rising sign, twelve houses, planetary aspects, and a chart based on your exact birth time and place. With so many variables, the odds that something will seem accurate skyrocket. It’s not divinity, it’s just statistics, the more chances for overlap, the more likely you'll connect with something.
Astrology also acts as a mirror, not a map. It gives us language to explore identity, emotion, and connection. Reading a chart can feel like therapy, even if it isn’t based in science.
And lastly, astrology gives us a shared sense of meaning. Blaming Mercury retrograde isn’t just an excuse, maybe it’s a way to bond and cope in our shitty lives.
So no, astrology doesn’t work in a scientific sense. But it feels like it does, because it taps into the way we think, reflect, and relate, and perhaps science (in how it is communicated to us) and society can learn a thing or two from it. Especially when today, in an unapologetically capitalist society, it's all about materialistic worth.
All that being said, if you want your birth chart made, I spent a whole afternoon googling around stuff and can make one for you lol, do message me if you want that haha x

astrology to me is just so fun, especially in a social setting. I love getting to know people more than just "what do you do for work? what are your hobbies?" type questions, I feel that astrology, 16 personalities, blood types, favorite characters, ocs, etc, are great to get to know people, weather they agree, what they think about it, how accurate or inaccurate it is to them, etc.
Idk, maybe its a lot of labels, but I like them. I'm a pisces with moon in cancer and rising in libra btw \o/
