thoughts about cultural revolution

sad

so i've been thinking about technology and this generation a lot and i have a prediction. the boomers had the hippies and the beatniks and radio. this was out of rebellion against rigid societal structures and the traditionalism set up before them by the silent generation. the silent generation wanted their children to be insanely hard workers like them but this caused their children to be like "lol fuck it i'm going to search for the meaning behind existence.

what's interesting is that the millennials don't rebel in the same way. sure, you have late gen X and early millennials who were punks. and pretty much all the way through millennials existence they DID do pretty much everything to spit in the face of censorship (this continues with gen z even further) however that's not what's interesting about millennials to me. what's interesting is the HUUUGE self help, diet awareness, yoga mom explosion.

this happened because alot of boomers still are very very traditionalist when it comes to work ethic being your main worth ect. i feel like this moment is over looked because it's kinda memed on but truly this was a humongous step towards a happier society.

and now we get to gen z and thi think we will probably have some sort of social revolution as well and it will probably be in the same way as the millennials. the millennials had to go in search for the "work life balance" but gen z has a completely different thing. genz is the first generation that grows up with technology as a literal extension of themselves. our whole lives (some of us more or less) are on our phones. like from our most heartfelt conversations to every documented interest you have scattered across pinterest boards and youtube subsciptions. the huge problem with a society forming obsessed with technology is that past a certain point it incentivizes people not to socialize or work towards stuff. humans are wired to do both of those things-and yk what? i don't think our society will survive without this. i think there will be a point where we have to rethink technology and i think gen z will do that.

not to say that we are at a debilitating stage of social collapse yet but hypothetically that's what would happen, i just don't think it can. like how a masochist wouldn't literally saw themselves in half, or how an adrenaline junky wouldn't face certain death for a thrill: i don't think civilization will tolerate social collapse for more screentime lol. i could be wrong ig but i'm pretty optimistic about this.

we are at record highs for loneliness and friendless and it will likely get worse before it gets better but we'll probably do something just like the millennials did with the whole "work life balance" thing.
