Supporting Local Art is Worth It!

I went to a local punk rock show for my very first time last night with a good friend. It was a very small venue (probably 15-20 others tops, excluding the bands), but God was it great!!!

I got to meet some people, most prominently was the frontman for the 2nd set of the show. We got T-shirts from her band, and ended up with all the members signing our shirts, and the drummer handing us drumsticks and a fist-bump. Everyone there was very welcoming and so sweet (Punk rockers are usually some of the nicest people you'll meet). 

Supporting small and local artists is an amazing and important experience. For a small band, even if it isn't many, everyone who shows up for their show means the world. Bonus, you get to have fun listening to music! 

With the internet being how it is, it is so easy to conflate it with the real world now. When you go online, a lot of it is either someone spewing their bullshit, or someone complaining over something horrible someone else did. None of it is positive! Getting to go outside, and have joy and unity with other people can truly prove this mindset wrong. It may not always feel like it, but there are so many genuine and kind people out there to meet. 

If you're here thinking; "but I live in such a small area!" "I don't know any venues!" "I can't do that!!!" Trust me, I felt the same. But if there's a will, there is a way. You just have to look. It may take some digging, but I'm sure you'll find something out there close enough around you. (Facebook is a good place to look for local things in my experience, or pay attention to flyers.) Or maybe you're thinking "that sounds stupid, and I hate people, no thanks!" So, sure. There's that too.

I can't guarantee you'll get the same experience I did, but I implore you, go out! It's a great way to face your fears, have fun, and meet some new folks.
