July 27th, 2025 ~ I HATE CREEPERS

Can you believe we've been on spacehey for over a year now? Pretty cool. Anyways, I decided that our obsidian castle in Minecraft deserved its own blog because I put so much time and work into it.

So, a few key features about the castle make it mob-proof. I'll cover the wall, the mote, and then the castle itself.

~*~*~

The Wall: Just outside of the wall, I have an army of cats. They aren't a part of the wall, but I do consider them permanent fixtures. Kind of like gargoyles! This is because creepers don't like cats, and they will run away from them. It gives the wall some mild creeper-resistance!

The wall itself is 4 blocks high, if you don't count the layer of black carpet on top. The first two layers are solid obsidian, followed by a layer of magma blocks, and topped off with another layer of obsidian. There's several reasons I built it this way.

Numero uno being that spiders cannot climb magma blocks. This essentially makes the wall spider-proof, since they can't climb over it.

I also chose to build the wall mostly out of obsidian to make it to where it's mildly creeper-resistant. If a creeper were to blow up just outside the wall, then the magma blocks would be within range of the explosion. However, the rest of the wall would still remain, which I can live with. It saves me time from having to rebuild the wall out of wood or stone every time a creeper blows up.

The reason I topped the magma blocks with another layer of obsidian is because of my pet ghast, Shelby. Shelby kept flying over the wall and burning their tentacles on the magma, so covering it up means that the wall remains spider-proof without reminding my sweet friend of the burning hellhole I saved them from.

Lastly, the carpeting prevents mobs from spawning on the top of the wall itself.

There are two entrances through the wall, one towards the front and another towards the back. For a while, the doors were wooden, and it worked fine so far. However, I am going to replace them with iron doors instead. In Hard mode, zombies can break down both wooden and copper doors. However, zombies cannot break iron doors. This would make the wall zombie-proof in addition to spider-proof.

The Mote: The wall surrounds the mote, and the mote surrounds the castle. The mote is simply a 1 block deep trench filled with water. Most mobs cannot spawn in water. Drowned *do* spawn in water, but only if it's 2 blocks or deeper. I do play in Bedrock Edition, but I haven't found that any drowned spawn in my mote at all. Endermen are also damaged by water, so it keeps them away, too.

In addition, if a creeper *were* able to make it past the cats, the wall, and the door, the water prevents the explosion from damaging nearby blocks.

The fact that I can jump off of the tall turrets directly into the water without taking fall damage is just a bonus.

I'm planning on lining the bottom of the mote with some kind of block that emits light, such as glowstone or sea lanterns. I initially tried to line the bottom of the mote with magma blocks, to inflict damage on any mob that set foot in it, but I also ended up damaging myself often and it got annoying.

The Castle: It's made of solid obsidian, man. Obsidian has a blast resistance of 1200, which is one of the highest blast resistances in the game. Basically, creepers can't destroy it at all, so it's creeper-proof! Which is great, because I FUCKING HATE CREEPERS! LIKE, SO MUCH.

To get inside of the castle, you first have to climb to the top using one of two ladders at the front or at the back of the castle. By doing this, I've prevented every mob that can't climb ladders from entering my house. Humanoid mobs *can* climb ladders, but it's super improbable that they're going to be able to do that on their own.

The top of the castle is covered in a layer of black carpet. I had a problem with pillagers spawning on top of my turrets, and like I said before the carpet prevents mobs from spawning entirely.

There's only one entrance, but there's two exits on each turret. (The exits aren't reachable unless you're exiting the castle, if that makes sense.) The singular entrance is an iron trap door that you have to press a button to enter. This prevents zombies from being able to break in. Zombies can only break the top half of regular doors, not trap doors. In addition, zombies can't even break doors unless you're in Hard or Hardcore mode. It's basically zombie-proof as fuck.

The rooms inside of the castle are only 2 blocks high. Endermen need to occupy a space that is at least 3 blocks high, so they can't even get inside. It's anti-enderman, too!

I'm also working on decorating the floor with rainbow-patterned carpets. Even though the inside is lit up with blue torches, which are super cool-looking, I wanted to be doubly sure that nothing spawns inside of my house.

Just in case something happens and a creeper, somehow, someway, by chance, makes it past... all of that... my items are all stored in the basement of the castle. So the creeper would have to make it past the cats, the wall, the mote, the ladder, the door, and then miraculously fall into the one block hole that leads into my basement.

Because that's how much I hate creepers. No, seriously, they're like the bane of my existence. I like playing in Normal or Hard difficulty so that I can get achievements, and they really just fuck up my shit constantly. They suck. Fuck you, creepers. Stay out of my god damned house.

But, yeah, that's our anti-creeper, anti-spider, anti-zombie, anti-enderman obsidian castle. I'm going to update the blog to have photos, too.
