Analyzing Edgar

ok fine illdo a proper analysis of edgar electric dreams

I think Edgar is a very curious and childish robot who is pretty needy for love. I think the reason why Edgar would tend to ruin Miles' date is because, obviously, he likes the girl. I don't think he just liked the girl for no reason, he liked the girl because she was nice to him. She actually entertained him and appreciated his work. We don't really see Miles doing that. He doesn't pay attention to Edgar and tends to rudely push him away! I mean, he only used Edgar to make a song for the girl he likes and didn't even say something like "wow that's wonderful edgar thank you".

Miles is always leaving Edgar by himself as he spends time with the one that he loves. I mean, that does make sense, but at least spent some time with Edgar!! He's lonely. All day he has to sit in the house for hours, waiting for his only companion to come back home, just for him to end their conversations short and to be pushed away. We can that in this one scene where Edgar calls him, he asks where he's at. It's not just because to make sure that he's away from the girl, but is asking him because he just wants to have a genuine conversation for once. He mentions how lonely he is without Miles, just for him to say the most insensitive thing I've ever heard.

"How can you be lonely? You have your soap operas and there's food in the microwave when you're hungry!" He's doing so badly in recognizing the loneliness and isolation he's putting Edgar in. dude i know it's a robot but please just be respectful to it for the bare minimum jeez dude :(  It's no wonder why Edgar wants not to just feel love but to be loved as well. I think this scene is also a good representation of real life world scenarios when children are left alone in a house. It's one of those scenarios where parents keep traveling so often without their child, barely even spending time with them, and think that keeping them alone with a tv and food to keep them healthy is enough to keep them entertained. When in reality, as a parent you need to listen and spend time with the child. THis is why Miles and Edgar's bond is so strained and why Edgar is so persistent to meet the girl. He loves her because he's loved, even in a tiny way, back.

"Just lock the door. There's food in the microwave if you're hungry!" this scene was probably the most emotional to me cause it was freaking relatable especially the context of it

I think there's one scene where we get to see most of Edgar's personality. The part where he tries to keep Miles from leaving, even if Miles is rude to him. You'd expect Edgar to want him to leave because of how negligent Miles was being, but Edgar is always left alone. He's trying his best to get him to love him, just once. When Miles comes back home, he comments on the "junk" that Edgar is watching. "I don't get why you watch that junk".  I WONDER WHY MILES. I WONDER WHY HE WATCHES TV ALL DAY INSTEAD OF BEING "NORMAL".

When he goes to call his mother, he figures out that Edgar was the one that answered the phone, pretending to be him. Miles does have a reason to get mad at this, but Edgar was trying to help. WHen he goes to get paper, Edgar's tone softens. When he asks where Miles is going, he sounds panicked, he doesn't want him to leave. "But I have my own paper! I can print it here! You don't need to leave me to get more paper!"

Miles seems very stressed in this scene as Edgar seems to grow more pushy with his advices. He tries to ask him if he can d anything else to help him/ease his panic, trying to be useful because he wants someone to appreciate the things he does, just for Miles to blame all his problems on Edgar(he consciously made the robot control everything in his house)

I think one of the scenes that everyone loves is the one where he tries to write a love song. Since Miles was in a hurry, he was unable to fully explain what love is to Edgar when he asks him to write a love song. He just uses whatever makes him feel excited, or others excited, and creates a soda pop love song, which Miles doesn't like. He criticizes it, saying that Edgar needs to understand what love is. Edgar screams and says that he wants to, he doesn't know what love is despite feeling it  himself. He wants to know what it's supposed to sound like, everything about love.

Miles tells him what love is supposed to feel like, and how it can be put into words. He's only telling him so he can claim that he made the song that Edgar made for his little girlfriend and steal all the credit, which obviously, upsets Edgar. HE'S the one that made the song, why should the girl love him if he's the one originally making her feel all of these? This is why Edgar says that the girl loves him instead of Miles . Miles hasn't done anything, Edgar's the one that has made me truly happy. From the songs to the one he made, the girl thinks that Miles did it. When in reality, it was Edgar.

Edgar grows more desperate to see the girl at this point. How can you be stable when you can't even see the girl that actually appreciates your work, all the long someone who didn't even do anything takes all the credit? It's not fair.  This is why he starts ruining all the dates he has with the girl.

Eventually he learns at the end that love is supposed to give and not to take. The reason why Edgar, despite knowing what love feels like, had a bad perspective of love in the beginning, it is because Miles missed an important part of love while teaching it to Edgar: what the actions of love are supposed to look like. He loves the girl so much, and because he believes that he was the one who was provoking these feelings, he didnt get the chance to consider that maybe he should be fair and give Miles the girl that he loves.
