so, ever since the hype around artificial inteligence started i knew that it was a bunch of bs. its literaly plain old plagarism, gives inacurate information & makes stuff so easy that it does not help humans, it makes us lose our crucial ability of critical thinking as well as disables us from being able to solve every day problems. i also generally feel as though everything written by ai is mediocre, has no intention behind it and is over all soulless, not to mention pinterest and other image sharing platforms (e.g instagram) are flooded in ai crap.
how's my family related to that? well, whenever i mention not agreeing with the idea that ai is "revolutionary",which it is not due to the fact tht for something to be considered revolutionary it has to be original and new while ai is neither of those things, they look at me as if im a crazy person. also, my mother uses it in order to ask for medical advice that can go very wrong in a lot of diff ways, especially when she feeds it pictures of her face. my dad thinks that research needs to be done by it now because it is easier, completely ignoring the fact that it usually gives hella misinformation, while my brother treats it as some sort of all knowing god...
i just hate how they, and other people in my family & social circle that use ai, treat me as some sort of idiot because i think its shit and that the human brain needs to think because making it lazy is fucking dangerous. am i in the wrong here? i am just tired of being seen as a wierdo for refusing to use it. i understand that arificial inteligence has its perks but using it feels wrong to me.

My mom uses generative ai so so much and it genuinely drives me insane,, she refuses to listen when I explain how harmful and lacking in creativity it is, these days I’m convinced she just thinks I’m stupid.

Well, i have 2 say that the part part abt ur mother asking AI about MEDICAL ADVICE is crazy! Especialy having met her and having her in high regard and looking up 2 her, i think she is a clever person in general but i guess its an age thing. You also already know about that phase my mother went through in easter, BEGGING me multiple times to make studio ghibly pics of her and her boss or making an AI easter egg to post 2 her facebook, so i feel you, my older brother also, who I condider resonbly wise, is also kinda AI supportive but i havent delved much into the matter to know 4 sure, just by sum things hes said in the past...Something else crazy is that ppl like us are THE MINORITY, which i dont get, yeah, we dont REALLY get AI in a way but we understand its DISSASTEROUS consequences. So, u would expect our elders to despise it or fear it even more, especialy when it comes to JOBS. I really hope we dont end up in a cyberpunk future filled with EVS, AI, Neuralinks and cyber limbs... Im tottaly with you... Also ur brother is a gen alpha (on of the earliest tho) so of course he would love the convinience of it bcs gen alpha doeasnt rlly think at all, the millenials are too cringy and akward so they could never raise kids properly and stck ipads on their faces. But ur brother specificaly also grew up wt google so its kinda odd. Whatever, lets see how this goes and try 2 make our impact.

yeah, cuz its trained on anything on the internet so its just a glorified version of google

no, you're not weird for that at all. ofc as companies push AI more and more- you're gonna feel like an outcast. don't fall for it- generative ai is pretty blatantly useless to outright malicious towards our minds and workflow. its unfortunate that your family has gotten caught in the marketing, but hey. stick to your values.
i deff will, its just that my own family thinks im backwards or wtv but i guess god forbid i dont wanna fuck my brain up and turn it into putty that loses its creativity. my dad keeps sending me stupid articles that glorify ai and keeps trying to push me to get into computers instead of the linguistics degree i actually want.

best of luck towards that degree! even if your father doesn't see the value in it- its SUCH important work you'll be doing!
on a side note- i find it hilarious that some parents assume that young people can automatically get into computer careers just because we're online. brother in christ i am installing firefox plugins and changing variables, not hacking into the mainframe... its like magic to some of them. maybe thats why they're so prone to ai- just a lack of fundamental understanding of how computers work from a front-end level... ;o; aaauugh....

I share your opinion on AI, so I'll say you're in the right. Down with the machines! People usually won't listen to opinions like these, so the only thing you can do is to focus on what you can control. Avoid using AI for anything and stay in spaces that are against it. That's what I've been doing（＾ν＾）
thanks for the advice, i have been avoiding my phone for a while becz it is full of ai bs. it feels nice to know someone is doing the same!! :D
