Before I started actually posting reviews and jotting my thoughts down on games here, I figure I'd give a foreword, not because I think people are actually reading and need it but more-so for myself to look back on in the future to see how I've changed since writing. So I figure I'll start with an introduction alongside my thoughts behind why I'm doing this.
Anyways, Hello! I'm Crazycatastrophe or better known as Devi1_Luke in FGC spaces. I started out playing fighting games with DOA3 on the original Xbox eventually pivoting over to Capcom and SNK titles as I grew up such as SF4 and its revisions, KOF 13 and more, titles like this were mostly what I played during the 7th console generation. As time moved on and I became older I leaned more into Anime titles as my interest in the subgenre blossomed with games like Melty Blood Actress Again and Guilty Gear Xrd Rev2. The game I really decided to settle with was Guilty Gear Accent Core +R making that the first game I tried learning *for real for real* (Entering tournaments and whatnot) I had much success in learning the game integrating nicely into its community and making a spot for myself as a respected Eddie player.
So why am I doing this?
There are a handful of reasons but first and foremost... I'm super opinionated!!!
I almost always have a lot to say when it comes to this genre but the nature of needing to "have credentials" to speak on most topics with any kind of objective lens creates an incredibly hostile environment in most community spaces I'm in, I'll fully admit that I'm not super ready to be viewed under a microscope yet and I want a space I can feel safe to speak my thoughts on the many moving parts of the genre before I become better at articulating those ideas.
Fighting games are the sum of their parts.....
Is what I'll say for 99% of the genre. BUT! There are many aspects of even forgotten games or even games considered "kusoge" that I think should be seen and should be studied! Good ideas are dripping everywhere in this genre, and sometimes even just one of these traits can be enough to give the game serious merit and prove its work worth learning from.
Which leads me into... I want to eventually make a game!
I think I understand this genre pretty well but its deep, so deep I'm still sinking to the bottom. I'll probably never reach the true depths this genre has to offer but I want to learn as much as possible in pursuit of making "The Perfect Game™" or a game that fills the needs and desires of my specific demographic, as I don't feel like we've been catered towards in almost a decade when it comes to new releases. The new direction for this genre and honestly entire medium scares me, and compared to other genres I don't feel too confident leaning on the other indie devs on the market to help pull anyone out (which could be its own post)
So yeah I don't know when I'll actually start posting reviews, before I start anything serious with writing I'm going to get the format down to something I feel comfortable with, as well as making a follow up post talking about the schedule and pool of games I'll be reviewing
