a whole week of spacehey

yesterday marked the end of my first full week of having this account, so i figured i'd give my thoughts and feelings about how things have been going while i've been using this site

i originally created this account to try and move away from more short-form social media like instagram and tiktok, somewhere where i could 1) have a space away from my irl friends just to make my own identity without them interfering with it, and 2) make NEW friends online that don't have to know every little piece of information about me

i also almost exclusively use the website as opposed to the app so i spend less time on my phone (which has been a goal for me for a while since we live in an age where the content on the internet has become mostly generative AI or brainrot. or bullying).

and i WILL say that spacehey has definitely succeeded in doing all of this

i don't sit on my phone all day scrolling through social media or bothering my irls, i relearn HTML and CSS and i go through my spacehey friends' posts. i occasionally go on tumblr as well, but still. AND i literally make friends because they either think my profile is cool or we share the same interests!

it's just that simple.

this site has even rekindled my love for sharing my writing with others! i haven't wanted to write so much in ages (as someone who still considers himself pretty fresh out of high school) (high school crushed most of my creativity.)

my mental health has even improved greatly just by using my typical social media apps less (which was ALSO A GOAL. i don't wanna feel gross about myself and what i enjoy because people on instagram think it's weird and should give them a pass to bully people)

this website overall just seems like a very kind and carefree community where people can get their thoughts out and connect with others, regardless of where you live in the world. i'm definitely going to keep using my account because this is possibly the most positively-influencing social site i have ever used??
