So, my friends and I frequently play Bedwars on Hypixel, as you do when you have no lives on a Thursday evening, and today particularly was an interesting one. What was seemingly an average game turned into a fight for eternity.
But I'm just being dramatic. It did take a while, though.
It was a 3v3v3v3, and two of the teams had been knocked out. 3v3. We were green, they were red, there were bridges connected everywhere and not once could any of us get close enough to the other's base to do serious damage. By serious damage, I mean to destroy their beds so we actually have a chance. This ended up happening for a long time, until the point where the Emerald III timer was ticking. The other team asked the following:
"hey, wanna do dragons?"
Now, any Bedwars player that should have common sense and a good look at the diamond upgrades knows that if you wait long enough, deathmatch results in each team having dragons. If you get that far, you can get an extremely rare achievement. The reason why it's so rare is because there are very, very few games that actually get to that point without organizing it. It was very clear the other team wanted to get that achievement, but were we about to let that happen? Hell no.
They kept pressuring us to stay alive long enough to get to deathmatch. They had geared up to ensure not only their survival but that we'd stay away without dying. This included knockback sticks, power bows, and chugging jump boost potions. Soon enough, our beds got destroyed automatically. Each of us was a walking final kill. One life left. Ten minutes until dragons. If we wanted to screw these people over of their rare achievement, either we had to kill them or jump off ourselves. Obviously, the former was the ideal turnout.
They built up defenses and kept us in arm's reach. One of our teammates had fallen off, as had one of theirs. 2v2. The clock was ticking. 3 minutes left and we had finally gotten somewhat close. They were running away to ensure the achievement, but we kept gaining. Finally, there was one minute left, and it was clear that we were evenly matched.
We jumped off the map with 50 seconds remaining, ruining their inordinate attempts at their esteemed Dragon Slayer achievement.
After the game, one of their teammates friended one of ours. They exchanged a few messages, and I sent a friend request as well.
They accepted and immediately kicked both of us off their friends lists.
