im a Christian and ive been going to church for almost my entire life. one idea in Christianity perpetuated by churches ive been to is smthn i rlly cant get behind, and its the idea that: we're unworthy of love and the fact God loves us shows He's an amazing God.
sure, i believe no one is perfect and free of sin. we have all sinned. but to say that we are unworthy of love is such a dangerous idea to drill into people's minds. Jesus clearly shows through His love that, despite our sin, we are worthy of the unconditional love He has for us. preaching that every single person is unworthy of love is only going to harm people's self concept and self worth.
remember: Jesus loves everything about us. He shows through His sacrifice that we are worth it.

bad churches tell their members and congregates that we are unworthy of love. it's classic emotional manipulation. it does not line up with what the Bible says and what Jesus teaches us. i recently started going to a recovery-type church 4 weeks ago and the sermons there are the exact opposite - they say why Jesus loves us, why we are worth it, and they've talked about lukewarm and contradictory Christians, who look like a clean cup on the outside, but have hate in their heart.
I agree that Jesus sacrificed himself so that we would be forgiven for our sins and loved!
it really is emotional manipulation. they beat down their members and give them the solution. this is such an awful tactic to keep people in the church and the opposite of what Jesus showed us on the cross

agreed. it's quite unfortunate how many churches end up doing this, and it turns a lot of people away from Christianity and God as a whole. I just say we don't patronize the bad churches and the mega churches who are clearly in it for the money.
