New Beginnings

Alright fellas, its that time. Yesterday I finally got my new car!

Gti2011

She's a 2011 Volkswagen GTI, 4d, turbocharged 4 banger. Let me tell you man she's fun as shit to drive dude. Got a bit of turbo lag but its so small and with 200hp that shit puts you back in the chair. Now, the is my second car so I'm gonna try to be better with this one on like keeping her clean and well maintained. I kept up with my truck (1998 Toyota Tacoma) really well but just last month I think the 22nd I totaled the truck badly almost a year into owning it. I actually wrecked like a few days before the 1 year mark, first wreck ever too. It still hurts but I'm not here to blab on about it, what i will say tho is that I've gotten back on the road with the GTI and I am getting my confidence in my driving back now that I've got basically a show car.

I plan to do a few things to the GTI, I have a vision of possibly some neon green rims and green underglow BUT one downside, as you can see on the front, the accents are red as well as the interior, my seats are a black and red plaid which, don't get me wrong, is fuckin' SICK and fits me super well but the red and green wont go well together. Tho I might just maybe get a little bit of black wrap to go over the red in the front (or if you have any suggestions, reader, tell me!) and some seat covers I found that were green plaid instead which would be more fitting. It's either the green OR I commit to the red and keep the black rims, still getting underglow regardless but yk it'll just be red instead of green. It's a tough decision on my part cuz both are cool but a monster energy themed GTI would be really sick imo. Actually now that I type this, I think some matte black wrap would be cool. The black it has atm is cool but its got pearl in it, which makes it look a bit blue in the daylight.

All in all, I really love this car. Of course, it wont come as near and dear to me as my truck but it's still really fun and I hope to stick with it for a while. Thanks for reading guys, to whoever is reading do remember that not all bad things are forever and there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Peace n love, ya'll <3

Congrats on the new car, looks nice.
I actually like the back with red accents personally. But if green is your favorite color, ya doing some back wrap on the red would work.

Would you be interested in adding your car to my website? It's a place where people can share pics of the rides and tell others about projects they are working on. If you were around in the early 2000s, think of it as being what CarDomain was back in the day.

Would love for you to add it, and share updates as you work on it.

Depending on what engine you have it might be a good idea to change the timing chain. On a few engine codes the chain tensioner is notorious for snapping (it's plastic). I'm not exactly sure on what engines it happens (I'm used to working on older Volkswagens) but it might be worth checking.

Ahhh alright, I'll keep a lookout for that. I talked to another guy and he said that these things are notorious for having plastic pieces. I think the biggest one atm is the water pump being plastic which I'm def gonna get replaced if it hasn't already. I'm taking her tmr for a tune up so hopefully they should tell me if anything looks bad. Thanks again!

Btw, if you feel so inclined to answer, what would be something good for a begginer mechanic to keep in mind when working on VWs? I plan to def do a lot of my own work and anything helps :)

First thing first get a VCDS dongle (cheap knockoffs work just fine but make sure to get a decent quality one) and a laptop if you don't have one. It's very helpful when diagnosing an issue and you can also activate features that are not available in your country. When you order parts (especially engine/gearbox related) make sure to check forums because sometimes oem/oem matching quality (ex: Febi Bilstein) parts have known defects and there might be a better option. On newer VWs a lot of bolts are theoretically single use. In reality many of them don't actually need to be replaced (again, do your research). Also be careful with plastic parts, even on newer models they tend to be brittle.

ahh ok neat, i had no idea that id be able to look on a laptop for my cars issues and hidden features. and actually today we changed my headlights and man, the plastic really is that damn brittle lmao, i was scared i was gonna mess it all up but didnt. im def gonna look into that dongle tho, that would probably help a ton. thanks man!
