New Comic Book Day Roundup 7/23/25

This is the time of the week where I sit and read all the many new release comics I keep up with. For this post, I'll be listing the books as I read them and only really discussing the ones I have strong thoughts on because I read too many new release books to write about each one every time. There WILL be spoilers, so let this serve as your warning.

Green Arrow (Vol 7) #26

Wow. This GA run has been top notch so far but this issue really blew me away. Monto's art was an incredible mix of Neal Adams's work on GL/GA and Mike Grell's work on Longbow Hunters which serves the context of the story incredibly well considering Ollie's worries of Roy backsliding into addiction again. The weight of guilt on Ollie's shoulders is palpable. I also loved the handling of Lian in this issue. She witnesses her dad overdose and is understandable scared but Ollie's handling of things was great. I cannot wait for the next issue.

Godzilla (Kai-Sei Era) #1

Alright, I admit, I was very skeptical going into this one. I don't care for Godzilla's design here and normally really dislike Tim Seeley written comics (not because they're bad, but because they're boring). That being said, I really liked this one. The idea of a superhero team built to take down kaiju isn't new, but it is always fun. I like the team members quite a bit, especially the rather Groot-ified Jet Jaguar. The art was really quite lovely, especially the way the kaiju were drawn. And most importantly of all, this issue included Anguirus who is a favorite of mine.

Fantastic Four Fanfare #3

Another writer I did not expect to enjoy something from this much was Dan Slott. He wrote a wonderfully sweet story about the Thing and Reed's faith in him. As a huge fan of Ben Grimm, I couldn't be happier with this issue. The second story brought on Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz, who are a favorite creative team of mine from their time with Thor. Seeing them bring Sandman back to his heroic past was lovely, and his and Ben's friendship is very sweet. Chip Zdarsky's story was another hit. Very silly one-off which ends with Ben Grimm being declared Sexiest Man in the Universe, which is much deserved if you ask me.

Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #10

For the anniversary legacy number issue of #250, we got a bombastic extra-length action scene featuring all of Moon Knight's allies and many of his silliest obscure villains. I am rather glad this issue is not the end of Jed MacKay's run as I had previously worried and cannot wait to see where he goes with Moony next.

Green Lantern (Vol 7) #25

Green Lantern is one of my favorite pieces of the DC Universe ever. I have read every GL comic ever made. I have every first appearance from the Silver Age to now. I am a FAN. That being said, I absolutely loathe the Jeremy Adams run of Green Lantern. All established lore is being ripped apart to cram all of Adams's new creations in and he keeps cramming more and more non-GL concepts and characters from obscure parts of the universe into the title. There's no reason for this issue to include freaking Gemworld at all. And yet it does. Jeremy Adams so desperately wants to be Geoff Johns but is not willing to put in the work or effort to do so. He just keeps tossing crap at the wall, hoping something will stick.

Flash: Bad Moon Rising #1

A love letter to fans of James Robinson's Starman run, this reintroduces the Shade to modern readers and is a wonderful epilogue to the Robinson run. I am a massive fan of that run and am always really happy to see characters and ideas from it. I love the way the Shade's connections to Opal City are expanded and explored as well as the one specific page where you see time pass and the city grow, but the Shade stay the same.
