mischaracterization rant

hate when i go on ao3 to find a fanfic of my niche(ish) yumenovel and i see yet Another "rewriting the story but where the mc isnt unemotional" like. how do u read a first person novel and somehow miss every mention or allusion to his compartmentalization. hes emotionally constipated not apathetic !! if u thought about his character motivations for more than a millisecond u would recognize that he shuts himself from other people as a way to protect himself !!! apparently the residual copium fumes are getting to the readers bc how are we all misunderstanding a pivotal point of his character !! hes not unfeeling, he has no emotional support system and no knowledge of how to cope with the things hes going through so he pretends it doesnt exist !!! and its mentioned by other characters too straight up. they deadass lament about how he never opens up to anyone and how his trauma must eat him up but can never talk to him about it bc hes a pro deflector !!!!! call me paula alquist anton the way i feel like im being gaslit. am i just looking too deep or am i the only person with media literacy. i swear !! i swear it !! he acts nonchalant he has emotional moments !! he laughs and he smiles and he cries and he gets angry and he does it throughout the series !! what kind of emotion are you expecting him to portray !!! im sorry hes not constantly acting depressed every two seconds but hes trying to persevere !! the entire time hes been fighting to be with his family again !! even if its not brought up every other chapter its always been there. and he gave it up for his friends too !! u can say hes uncaring all u want but hes been caring for them through his emotionally stunted actions the entire time !!! he gave up everything for them !!! how can you say hes unfeeling !!! consider reading with ur eyes and not ur ass maybe !
