All the Angels Left Before I Even Learned How to Pray

I'm as empty as God Himself

And as lonely as only He can be

A crowd of angels trails His steps

But none will ever truly see

The day He's gone, no tears will fall

Not even from those passing by

The shallow crowd He called His own

Will turn their backs and just move on

An angelic fall from grace remains

Like a silent echo through the years

No savior in forgotten frames

No voice to quiet all these fears

They told me angels watched above

That I’d be held when night grew cold

But paintings fade, and so does hope

Their promised wings grew cracked and old

A shadow drifts where light once shone

A whispered name, forever lost

In hollow halls He walks alone

Beneath the weight of heaven’s cost
