so the word bug is actually a FORMAL noun; bug or true bug is the common name for Hemiptera, which is an order of arthropods. translation: bugs are a specific group of specific insects and people tend to use it to refer to ALL insects. it does NOT include butterflies, beetles, millipedes, centipedes, wood lice (or roly-polies) (or isopods), moths, grasshoppers, spiders, scorpions, crickets, mantises, roaches, flies, bees, wasps, ants and SO MUCH MORE. it DOES include treehoppers, stink bugs and cicadas. not much else to note TT
the only problem is: what else are people meant to call them??? i think it sounds so stupid for someone to say “LOOK A TERRESTRIAL ARTHROPOD” or “LOOK A HARD BODY INVERTEBRATE” when they see a big scary roach on the ground, refer below. for that reason i probably shouldn’t complain ab people dishing out the word bug….. BUT THERE HAS TO BE A DIFFERENT NAME!!!
