Reminiscing on what Canada was like in the 2000s-early2010s

I'm assuming many other Canadians feel the same way especially those in my generation.

Canada use to have a very different feel back in day like 2000s and early 2010s. Strongly in 2010 specifically. The air was so different back then and the vibes was also drastically different.

I grew up in both in both major areas of Canadas and the only 2 major areas being the west coast BC and Ontario Toronto area. Growing up in BC in the 2000s and early 2010s was such a different place from what i remember. I wasn't too old to remember much but 2009-2012 is clear as day to me. I remember seeing so much Canadian pride and the leaf everywhere. Every clothing store had a Canada collection and Canada day really felt like a major event whereas today I don't really partake in it and when I did, it wasn't as exciting as before. It just feels like I have to cause its Canada day and everyone is just doing it for doing it.

The music back then was also wayyy different than today by a landslide with lots of indie stuff all over the radio. Not saying they still don't play local stuff, but it's definitely more general mainstream American music now whereas back then not much outside music played other than global hits. Theres so many old songs I remember playing on the radio constantly and crazy that a few still play till this day. Like the indie scene really was bumping from what I've heard online and knowing what I was listening to as a kid I would def agree. Now I barely hear anything local and just sabrina carpenter and chappel whenever my mom plays the radio.

The clothing was the shit back then. So many Canadian brands that don't exist anymore which sucks and many that lost their charm. Ardene used to sell lots of grungy edgy stuff back then and earlier was very pop-punk like avirl Lavigne style. Looking at their old website in 2008 is the coolest thing ever. Loblaws Joe fresh also was kinda cool too back then. They had nice basics and kids stuff which I wore a lot as a kid. They were known as like a mom brand since who else is buying clothes at a grocery store but the stuff was actually quite decent and now its just a dumping ground for cheap manufactured clothes withe joe fresh tag on it. Bluenotes, La Senza, Danier, Lululemon, and Roots are some that I can remember. Most of them still exist but don't sell the quality and coolness they once had. I dont even know if bluenotes even is around. I know old La Senza was VS for us Canadians and my mom would drag me in there all the time. 2010 Lululemon was so good for no reason like I remember all the cool girls had the old thick cotton scuba with the crazy designs on them. Danier is still okay, but not as cunty as before. My mom has a closet of vintage danier and the silhouettes are insane and also hot pink and green leather jackets is absurd. Its so sad that all these brands have all become dumping grounds for overpriced garbage. Lululemon is the only one doing fine, but god I hate them so much now like bruh I would tots wear the old shit with the funky designs and thick high quality stuff. Every time I thrift I always find old stuff of these brands and just mourn what we once had. Nowadays especially here in vancouver everyone dresses so beige and active wear like omg put the aritizia puffer away its the summer. I'm sick of everyone dressing so boring here and bland. I will get looked at like an alien if I wear anything remotely colorful or bold. YOU PEOPLE ARE SO LAME WTF!!!!!

As for media, cartoons aren't made the same anymore, but that goes for global as well. Honorable mentions; Sushi pack, Dinosaur Train, Finding Stuff out, In the Night Garden, and The Mysterious adventures of Alfred Hedgehog. Grew up watching all of these and why are they kinda lost media wtf. Remember The Alfred Hedgehog game and I used to play it so much and unsure if I completed it. Tried searching it up and why is there actually nothing on it and not even archived on wayback :(
THATS REALLY SCARY THAT I'VE PLAYED LOST MEDIA WHATTT AND THE GAME IS LOST FOREVER NOOO.
Can't say for many movies since I didn't watch many as a kid. Was more into documentaries as a kid lmaoo.

I guess just everything really was different. That's what time does but at the same time I can't stop wishing that feeling was still there. Seems like most Canadians have lost their spirit for the country and just living here. I feel the same and I guess its for a plethora of reasons like a shitty prime minister, the history of Canada in residential schools and just everything they did to natives, and especially here in BC a lack of community. I'll speak for mostly vancouver and such since thats where I grew up and I can say that people are really weird here. Like it's so hard to make friends and meet up casually since everyone is a ghoster and lacks any awareness.

Wish for that canada I once knew<3
In this socio-economic climate... girl idk if that will ever happen...
