tired of everything love related being assumed to be straight romance

i listen to a lot of music, most of it about feelings/relationships and other stupid shit. 

i like to look at the lyrics sometimes when i listen to music so i just look them up on my computer and use Genius. if you don't know what Genius is, it's a website for song lyrics. when you look up "(song) lyrics" it's the first website that comes up with a yellow icon. 

anyways, this song i like, "You Are Going To Hate This" by The Frights (great song btw) is a song about a relationship where you admire the other person so much you're jealous of them. you know you're insecure and sensitive and nothing you say means anything but you'll say it anyways. 

it's gender ambiguous. no pronouns are used, it's just about someone. 

all the comments on the lyrics just say "she", "he thinks she", "he loves her". 

why does it ALWAYS have to be a she? 

why do we just assume everyone is straight? 

because being straight is what's "normal"? because EVERYONE is straight right? and if you're not you're a fucking freak. 

maybe, for once, it's about love. not being straight, or gay, or anything. just about SOMEONE. it doesn't fucking matter who. 

the issue is is that it seems like when someone insinuates the fact that a song could be not about a man and woman, people get up and arms. even when you say it's just about a relationship or refer to the person the singer is talking about as "them" or "they." 

and when a queer person says, "wow this reminds me of my queer relationship" people ALSO get mad. 

"this obviously isnt about being gay. it's about a girl."

yeah, it's not about being gay! it's about being a fucking person with feelings who FEELS THINGS ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE!! 

if i had a penny for every time someone said i shouldnt relate a song about an ambiguous relationship to my "gay stuff" i'd have over 5 pennies. 

crazy right?

maybe im too "woke". 

i just wish queer people were allowed to relate to things like straight people do.

i wish people would see me as a person with feelings for other people and not as someone pushing an "agenda." 

but, in the grand scheme, none of this matters. i'll still do whatever the fuck i want.
