Hello all, so yesterday at around 7pm my brother called me really upset because he had just gotten into a bad car wreck. He was with his girlfriend and they were leaving the mall, and he was going through an intersection with a green light, and someone ran a red light and ended up t-boning his car. Thankfully he slammed the brakes hard enough that the guy hit the front of the car instead of on the side where the car could have been dragged by force.
He's 22 now and he just got the car 3 months prior, it was the first car he had in his name and with his own insurance policy. I don't remember the exact year of his car but it was an older honda accord (2013-2015 I believe), that was still in really good condition. His girlfriend has some bruises on her legs but otherwise they both seemed to make it out okay. What made me most sad to hear about is that his insurance refused to tow him, triple a refused to tow him, and he ended up paying $350 out of pocket to get it towed back to a honda dealership because he didn't know what else to do. The airbags on the side of the car went off and some parts of the engine in the front (it looked like the radiator and part of the intake from the pictures, the front bumper got completely torn off) were damaged, so the car was running really rough and couldn't drive it off the scene.
I just feel bad for him because he's really turned his life around the past couple years and has been doing pretty well for himself. He recently finished his 4 year degree, got his own car, found a girl that isn't emotionally manipulative like his last two, got an internship that pays him pretty well, he hits the gym every day, and then this happens to him. Honestly, I'm just glad he's okay and that he isn't 7 feet under right now. If he wasn't paying attention and hit the brakes, he would have gotten hit right on his drivers side. I couldn't be there to help him out either because he lives 4 hours away for his job.
Maybe I'm just venting about the situation at this point, but I don't want him to end up getting discouraged because of this. He's had issues with things in the past and I don't want him to end up reverting. Especially over something that wasn't his fault and that he couldn't do anything about. If anybody knows how else I can be there for him (I'm 24 so I'm his older brother) feel free to share. I helped him through collecting a police report with witness reports and deal with insurance and getting a tow scheduled, but I'm mostly just worried that he's going to get discouraged over the whole situation.
Thanks for reading and drive safe out there!

damn, that's really unfortunate. hope things end up ok for him!
thank you and so far he seems to be fine! the other guy already admitted fault to his insurance so he'll end up getting paid out on the car, but since he drove a 10 year old honda with 130k miles he's just going to have to spend a little money to get himself into another car which is unfortunate.
