Yumeship | Kalei | Champion kit...?

hiya! lately i've been working on a kalei champion page- it's just a google doc formatted as if it were part of the league wiki! i was so focused on it yesterday that i forgot to update my blog (is anyone even reading...?) but today i wanted to take the time to— i think blogging is very exciting! even if it's mostly for myself. also, it will serve as an archive of sorts, so i want to try to update it with stuff as often as i can/feel like it.

anyways, i was working on the kalei champion page, and now i'm stuck in coming up with her abilities... which has proven kind of difficult. i only have some loose ideas of what her kit should be like, but it's hard trying to fit those ideas into a kit that feels balanced and... realistic? i don't really expect it to become anything more than a silly project for myself, but i would like it to be of good "quality" regardless.

i thought an interesting blog would be trying to come up with some abilities! i'm just going to list any things that occur to me and dissect them as i would do usually... but writing everything down? i think it might help me with the creative process. 

before i get into that, here are some things that i want to see reflected in her kit:

  • kalei has a very deep connection to viego, seeing him as the only person who will ever love her. she will do anything, anything, to make sure he stays by her side.
  • she has cryptid-vibes. i don't know how to explain this, other than saying she is a scary-looking creature that lives in the woods. in her story, she doesn't want to fight, preferring isolation since it is all she has ever known, but she will strike when cornered.
  • kinda expanding on the above, when she feels threatened, she chooses fight. she is vicious and feral, not showing mercy to whoever was foolish enough to try her. i feel like by merely being on the rift she feels scared enough and is ready to strike anyone. 
  • she reminds me of a snake a bit- backing away, letting you know it is dangerous, before striking deadly. i don't want any snake imagery though.
  • a lot of her lines play around being the shadow of isolde, not wanting to be hidden, and being a monster.
  • she becomes stronger and nastier depending on how many times she is "shut down"— like an intrusive though, the harder you try to ignore it, the more you end up thinking about it, giving it importance.


Passive!

so! first i want to come up with a passive- i think, because of the first point, her passive should add extra stuff to her kit when in the same team as viego. i was thinking she would be more of a damage dealer by herself- but she gets some kind of feral boost when ally viego is near, by wanting to protect him and keep him safe.

so perhaps that's the whole passive? And i could also make it so that the last point is included in this, so she has three 'states of mind' that can overlap, and it would be something like this:

Kalei has three 'states of mind', which make her abilities and attacks gain different or additional effects depending on her current state. The states of mind are as follows:

  • Cornered: When approaching an enemy champion, Kalei gains movement speed towards them and extra attack speed. This buff lasts 7(?) seconds from the moment she enters their attack range and has a 35 second cooldown.
  • Seen: When near an allied Viego, Kalei's abilities gain extra effects. 
  • Hidden: After respawning from an enemy takedown, she gains camouflage and her first ability towards an enemy champion deals bonus damage. The damage increases depending on her respawn timer.

i like this one! i can still refine it some more but i like the overall feel of it. i can picture it in game and i think that's a very important part.
