Id consider myself goth, sometimes I wear clothes that would fit the category but I’m not sure where the line between goth and other alt styles end and begin, or if there even is a line. Since yesterday, I’ve been watching malloryheart on TikTok for outfit inspiration and I noticed that they wear a lot of thrifted clothes. I’ve seen goth clothes before, but I’m not sure if I’m doing it right.
I don’t go thrifting a lot, it’s pretty expensive, but I’d like to make better outfits from what I already have, which is mainly t-shirts, jeans, sweaters, cardigans and my small collection belts + rings from HotTopic.
Another issue is that while I like HotTopic, they don’t really offer what I’m starting to like anymore. It’s mainly the shirts that I like but besides that, they’ve moved onto other things besides alternate fashion, so I want to look elsewhere.
I’m still learning to do makeup, might go to Sephora for better lipstick and eyeliner.
I REALLY like extravagant trad goth outfits, but I don’t think I’ll always have time to do them in the morning, especially during school season. I’ll figure this out later though, might just prep my fits the night before.
Anyways, all I really need is advice on is how to dress in a traditional goth way without spending too much
Side note:I like 80/90s fashion.

Honestly, get creative with the stuff you already have, and if you're seriously strapped for cash, see if you have goodwill bins near you! Pretty sure you still pay cents per pound out there, not sure. Mallory encompasses a very particular flavor of goth I really love to see, but those bold silhouettes and unique shapes are definitely hard to achieve without vintage garments... Though I think going to flea markets if you can will do you pretty well in terms of finding accessories that can elevate your existing outfits. Flea markets always have an abundance of tacky 80's and 90's nonsense, usually for a couple bucks. Obviously Mallory is big on shoulder pads, lol... There's a lot to consider but I hope you figure it out, lol
As for hot topic? I'd steer clear. I really don't even like their t-shirts anymore since they always seem to crack after a few washes no matter how gentle I am. (Meanwhile I have shirts from 2005 that look totally pristine)
Their accessories are also incredibly low quality, fit awkwardly, and are overpriced for what they are. If you're out in buttfuck nowhere like I am, stay on the lookout for estate sales!! God i fucking love estate sales.... Great way to find lots of dope accessories. Also, maybe check craigslist?? Or just be like me and get suuuper into depop, spend weeks curating your algorithm, and prioritize sellers who are just selling whatever bullshit out of their closet. Shipping can get pricy, but I regularly have people give me low-demand items for under $15. Offer on stuff that's been sitting untouched for weeks. Luckily a lot of basic 80's shit is pretty low demand. Though, for 80's stuff maybe you'd have better luck on Ebay? Get familiar with identifying 80's and 90's patterns, textures, fabrics, silhouettes, trends, brands, blah blah... Looking cool takes a seriously frustrating amount of dedication, but I love it, so...

Thxs for the tips, I’ll have to find some flea markets in my area, or even in my city if they’re rare. As for the Estate sales and Craigslist tip, I’ll have to figure out where and what they are, as I haven’t heard of Estates sales before this. I’ll check Depop but I’ve heard people say that stuff sold there is overpriced, but it can’t be as bad as HotTopic’s pricing. ( ̄∇ ̄)
