The Greek God; Zeus, a discussion.

Warning, mentions of the r-word, assault. Reminder the Greek myths aren't real, they can't hurt you, you're safe. If you still get triggered by these discussions, please don't read it. Stay safe, I hope you're doing okay.

A few months ago or so, I made a comment on instagram about how the most inaccurate thing the Hercules movie did was making Zeus a family man. And then someone replied to that comment actually defending him. I was baffled, and of course, I wouldn't let it slide and eventually the guy didn't even bother replying.

I'm pretty sure the guy was a Zeus worshipper (insane, I know).

He said that ''Zeus being a family man was his whole thing'' and of course, I disagreed and said in Greek Mythology he really is not at all.

He went all cocky and said ''let's settle our dispute here'' and then went on this whole thing about Hesiod and Orphic, quoting them and saying my only information is from the Percy Jackson books, and then also defending Zeus by saying he saved Demeter from getting r-worded. So I was of course offended that he was assuming I was an idiot, I said; "That's like saying if a guy kicked his child a few times in the head and abdomen, doesn't mean he's a horrible person because he donated to charity everytime they bothered to come to the door". And I also said that even if he saved Demeter, doesn't mean he didn't r-word Callisto, transform into women's husbands just to have his way with them, cheated on Hera a bunch. And that he's a notorious r-worder, sure it's a small part of ALL OF GREEK MYTHOLOGY, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

PLUS, I don't even like the Percy Jackson books as much, and he said something about that I only watch osp videos but idek what that is, I have a bookcase for a reason. He didn't even answer my question about what that is. (Btw the only reason why I dont like Percy Jackson is because I like imagining the Greek Gods myself, and seeing other people's versions of the gods always pisses me off. It is a really funny series though.)

I think the guy deleted one of his instagram comments (rad) because I also said more, so I assume he deleted the comment I replied to with the next comment.

I assume he spoke of Hera and that you shouldn't take the stories too seriously and of course I understood that part. I mean- Persephone and Hades is like the cycle of nature, (but Persephone really loves Hades, but that's not the important part).

I called his response dumb next then (the response that has been deleted by him), he said ''seduction'' is a key word or something and that, that doesn't mean r-word. But in 19th century translations of the original Greek, the word "seduction" was used to denote r-word and means "to steal".

Then I finished the entire argument with this in this one comment: ''I assume you worship Zeus and that's why you're defending him. Zeus was a gr*pist, and I know that Zeus is supposed to be a metaphor on what happens when a person has too much power. So why are you defending him, or are you just trying to sound smart? And btw if you just read Hesiod, read Ovid."

If you wanna see the comment yourself it's in @arys_thedumbelf00 's comment section in a video made the 27th of february 2025, with the Philomena Cunk sound of her saying "It's hard to believe I'm walking through the ruins of the first ever city, because I'm not, that's in Iraq, and miles away, and f*cking dangerous.", In the video's caption it says ''but it's fun.'', she's talking about ''It's hard to believe that Greek mythology is so simple" "because it's not".

Aren't the infidelity of Zeus and the revenge of Hera their most well known attributes? I wouldn't say a bunch, though, easily could've been over a hundred- including a man he granted immortality to as his own cupbearer, Hera couldn't do much to Ganymedes

Oh, sorry! I should've been more clear. I was adding onto this sentence of yours,
"And I also said that even if he saved Demeter, doesn't mean he didn't r-word Callisto, transform into women's husbands just to have his way with them, cheated on Hera a bunch."
I do agree with you. As you said, Zeus is tyrannical; he portrays the men of the time. Marriage wasn't seen as a partnership but serves only for procreation, and with the ancient Greeks stance of women, especially if they had sons. A lot of people dismiss the archaic definitions, sadly, it's inevitable.
Give me the benefit of the doubt, I read everything to completion, just very incoherent at texting
