☆ my top 3 japanese flip phones (keitai) ☆

Anyways~ for my first blog, i wanted to talk about something i really love… Japanese flip phones!!! (keitai!! 🥺💖)

I know it’s 2025 and some people are like, “why flip phones???” or “why old phones??”

but with everyone always online these days, it’s kinda nice to slow down a bit. Not everyone wants to be on social media 24/7. A lot of us actually are craving a break from all the noise, and flip phones are kinda perfect for that ♡ Personally, I have a bad habit of checking the freaking news and getting anxious for the rest of the day :/ 

Some people go full dumbphone, others just want fewer distractions, and that’s where cute lil smart-but-simpler Japanese flip phones come in. 

I've tried a bunch now and these are my top 3 faves so far~

1. 💖 kyocera gratina kyf42 & digno ky42c (tie! >_<)

These two are suuuper similar and both are sooo cute i can’t pick one!! they’re lightweight, easy to use, has android 10. Really, perfect for digital minimalism but still ✨aesthetic✨ and actually allows you to still use apps

2. 🐬 kyocera 902kc/903kc

Honestly, this looks like the first ones I've listed, but it is available in pink! feels chunkier in the hands, but that could be subjective as the dimensions are the same as the phones listed above. Flipping it open and close is so satisfying. Texting on this makes me feel like I'm in a 2000s J-dorama (´∀`)💭 

It runs on android 8 and you can sideload apps via adb - now, having 8GB of internal storage, especially in 2025 feels very limiting.. but maybe that's the point! XD

3. 🌙 sharp aquos 601sh

This one’s sleek and feels a bit more serious compared to the kyoceras. What makes it really cool is the touch cruiser! you can use the entire keypad like a trackpad, which is super rare now since newer flip phones don’t have that anymore. even though it runs on android 5.1, you can still sideload apps easily. For me, just having messenger and a note-taking app is enough. The boxy design is also really cute and gives it a unique vibe compared to the more rounded kyocera flips

So those are my top 3 Japanese flip phones - at least for now! (≧◡≦) I picked them based on how easy they are to use and how accessible they are to find online. But honestly, a lot of flip phones that came out after 2010 are pretty similar in terms of features and vibe (｡•́‿•̀｡)

If you’re thinking about trying one out, just go for the one that speaks to you the most ♡ Don't forget to also check the bandwidth and see if it will work with your carrier - thankfully, I never had to worry about this lol
