so initially I had bought tix for my chem's toronto show because it's the only show in canada -- side note why the fuck to big shows like this never come to vancouver??????? -- but because of the crazy expenses involved with actually going to toronto i made the literal last minute choice to go to seattle instead. luckily for me i have the coolest mom in the world and she helped me figure out transportation and hotels in seattle and wanted to come with me! she said she was a huge fan of the violent femmes when she was my age so she was super excited to come just to mainly see them lolz. so i got some pretty sick resale tickets for cheap in the 100s and even got to take a float plane for the first time to get to seattle from bc! customs was quite funny too because of the like 10 people on the plane, 6 of us were going to my chem so by the time my mom and i talked to the customs guy he didn't even ask us any questions because we were also going hahah ( i think he was a my chem fan ).
i haven't visited seattle since i was around 14 so it was actually kind of a shock to see how much the city has been cleaned up--literally? like there was no garbage or bird shit on the streets compared to vancouver which was nuts. for how genuinely nice the city felt, it was strange to walk around and see so many empty storefronts. my mom and i walked around for about 2 hours and the only shops worth visiting were nordstroms ( purely because they don't have one in vancouver anymore ) and uniqlo. because of how dysmal the shopping was and despite saying i would go with my brother- we went to go see the new superman movie to pass the time until the concert. the movie was AWESOME btw and genuinely put me in such a jovial mood it made the lead up to the concert in the following hours so much better. go see it if you haven't!
so with a new lease on life and a new skirt from nordstrom, i donned my black eyeliner and red eyeshadow and headed down to t-mobile park. stepping out of the taxi on the street next to the stadium was dizzying-- the streets were full of my people and fuckin panic! at the disco music was being played on a loudspeaker at the beer garden beside the stadium. it could've been from some snl skit on 'emo heaven' . cringe is dead though so it really was emo heaven. with a bit more than an hour until the violent femmes took the stage we hit the beer garden for quesadillas and hard seltzers ( strawberry - guava was incredible ). they had this dj guy mixing up classic 2000s emo tunes but he wasn't super great and also he played dance, dance about 4 times in the hour i spent hanging out there which was a bit much.
ANYWAYS the violent femmes were very good even though i only knew 1 song ( shout out to blister in the sun ). they are such musicians it was so cool to see -- the drummer actually started drumming on a fucking bbq at one point it was sick. because this show was the first of the tour i had NO idea what to expect but fuck. i was BLOWN AWAY!!! all of my expectations were exceeded tenfold with this show it's so hard to explain how cool it all is in person. my chem has ( like every other emo queer kid ) been such a huge part of my life and honestly saved my life a few times in my younger years. seeing how much they care about their audience to put on such a theatrical show with such strong political themes as the black parade AS WELL as a "part 2" of the concert performing TEN more songs from their other albums INCLUDING OUR LADY OF SORROWS, HEAVEN HELP US, AND BURY ME IN BLACK???? fuck they do love us huh. sadly they did NOT play my favourite song -- early sunsets over monroeville -- but i'll take them playing our lady of sorrows as a win.
this blogpost is getting long and its also a week post-concert so i doubt anyone cares about mcr seattle bc mcr san fran is tonight but if you made it this far thx for reading lets be friends!
ALSO IM SELLING 2 TIX TO TORONTO MCR PM ME IF U WANT THEM!!!
