album review: "LCD soundsystem" by... LCD soundsystem.

who would've thunk it... the album... is named after the guy who made it! crazy, i know. also, did yall know lcd soundsystem is just one dude? always has been. how can one person be so talented?? anyways, heard "tribulations" on the radio on my way to work and was reminded that this guy exists, thought i'd get back into him and listen to the self titled album. enjoy!

(i just looked at the album and tell me why its almost 2 hours long. what the hell. this better be some good ass music or im gonna be pissed off.)

"daft punk is playing at my house" - 4.3/5

i doubt that but ok. jk, lol. love the vocals, im a fan of this guys voice. the plucky bass is nice. this is a really funky goofy song, it's a nice change of pace from the shit i normally listen to. and the cowbell in the last half?? wow!! so creative. god, this guy is talented. i'm more jealous than anything to be honest. jk... not really though.

"too much love" - 4.9/5

if this song was a person i would let them manipulate me. i'd just let it happen and be content with it. i think theres an acme siren in here?? if there is thats super cool. it sounds like a police siren kinda, very shrill. panning too. ngh. great song. #inlove. more cowbells. never enough cowbells.

"tribulations" - 100/5

oh yes king. wonderful intro, wonderful beat. all around amazing combination of synths, beautiful even. the echo on the vocals are beautiful. i want this song burned into my brain. the bridge (˶´ཀ`˶) in love. the way the words are pronounced and the adlibs are so... mmm yes.

"movement" - 3.0/5

slam poetry with a beat. i still fw it ngl. when the guitar hits i get into it. sounds very...old rock. if that makes sense? like if someone didn't know LCD was electrorock and they only heard this they'd think it was just plain ol rock. "dads favorite song" type song. y'all get it. riff is sick as hell.

"never as tired as when im waking up" - 5/5

the muted scream toward the end. yes please. love the vibe. i always love these songs that feel so... blunt. you just say it, no need to tiptoe with meanings. the guitar is wonderful. this song feels...nostalgic in a weird way. this song reminds me of the first part of "me and your momma" by childish gambino.

"on repeat" - 3.0/5

the way i sighed when i saw the 8:02 playtime. now i see why this damn album is so long... at least its a good song. vocals are still nice. it's mostly instrumental. it doesn't feel like filler but it's kinda like background noise to me, not something i'd be super invested in listening to. i do like the instrumental progressions, the additions of cymbals and macarenas and then more layering of the synths and whatnot.

"thrills" - 4.1/5

the beat is something i KNOW ive made in bandlab before. guys... could i be the next LCD soundsystem?!?! if you know of an artist by the name of "that handsome devil"... the vocals. it sounds just like him. im a huge THD fan also btw,, might do one of his albums on my blog next ;) anyways. i fw this song. the vocal effects are super interesting. i like it when he screams...i like that. im just being reminded over and over again how freaking talented this man is. we have GOT to study this dudes brain when he dies

"disco infiltrator" - 3.9/5

fo sho. heh. another funky goofy song, love it. the overlapping vocals on the bridge are so good. don't have too much to say, it's still kinda background music-y to me. it's like... really interesting background music though.

"great release" - 2.0/5

SIGHHH songs over 5 minutes just...idk im not a fan all the time. i think the perfect song length is 2:40-3:45. after that it better be a good ass song or ill be PISSED!!!!! jk. this is essentially just an instrumental track. i think this is actually a filler or it's the separation between the physical media sides/discs. this would play before you flip the LP over or switch to CD 2. im not sure dont come after me thats just how it feels to me. idk tbh this one would be a skip. not a bad song by any means but like... i dont see why i would listen to it unless i really wanted to hear every song in order. oh and there is like literally 45 seconds of pure silence before the next song... T-T bro js gimme the music man

"losing my edge" - 3.1/5

more slam poetry with a funky synth in the back. still fw it. this song has a lot more outright meaning than some other ones. just about how james murphy (lcd) is watching the music scene change and how it's hard to keep the motivation to keep creating when it seems like everyone is better than you are. i'd really recommend reading the lyrics for yourself to really understand the perspective. another long song, background noise still. not bad by any means.

"beat connection" - 3.0/5

ok pal can we stop with these 8 minute songs. is my attention span just really cooked?? first 4 minutes are instrumental, last half has some vocals. nice bass in there again. vocals aren't disappointing either! i feel like this song would play in a movie scene where everyone is doing drugs and tripping out, specifically the last half. it's alright.

"give it up" - 2.5/5

honestly got completely distracted and barely paid attention to this one. it's like 3:30 am anyways. this long ass album bro

"tired" - 2.8/5

tired of this damn album, yeah. this is a more rock-esuqe song like movement. this sounds like it was recorded live lol. not in a bad way, but it just...does. if that makes sense. idk im so tired man, like literally im sleepy

"yeah" - n/a

yeah. im not listening to a 9 minute song man. save these long ass playtimes for post hardcore please.

"yr city's a sucker" - n/a

good golly make it end. its just dragging on. we got a six minute song, then an 8 minute, then 9, now 11. yeah i js cant man srry

gonna have to give this album a 2.7/5. lost me in the second half completely. it has some great songs but i would only add 6 out of the 15 tracks to my playlist. this doesn't tickle my fancy as much as i thought it would...
