Geting into the alt scene

I need help on how meet new alternative ppl.I hate asking this since it will make me look like a poser I suppose. But, I genuinely have no idea how to meet anyone like that. I used to be friends with a scene girl, but that fell through. Any tips willhelp. FY.l, I live in like rural south mississippi. Also, understand that many of the alternative culture/sub-cultures are dependent on politcal beliefs, fashion, and music.
