So, I'm turning 17 soon (shocking considering I'm writing this on a revival sight for a website that had lost social relevance by the time I was leaving elementary school). Regardless, I just wrote the first rough draft of many of my college essay, and it made me think. I don't really have many struggles besides the ones I've caused myself, but I am a good writer (not to stroke my ego or anything like that though lol). Anyways, what do most people write 'bout when they had a relatively good life. I hear most people talking about immigration, discrimination, poverty, abuse, mental illness, and the like, but what about the group that came from a loving home of people who supported and loved their child unconditionally and had agreeable opinions on life, what then. I'm "lucky" enough to have struggled with myself worth and found meaning through writing but that was just because I caused my own problems. Do people just brag about their achievements or smth??? Idk if you want lemme know in the comments what you wrote or plan to write for your college admissions essay or maybe give me some tips? Peace ^p^!!!!1!1!1!!!!111!

i agree w the person below about how your essays is more ab showing the insight you gained from an experience!!
I think the main benefit of writing about "hardships" is that it's an easy way to catch the admission officer's attention. But there's always other ways to catch the officer's attention in other ways such as the way you articulate your words and metaphors!
Most college essays are generically come down to the similar topics like creativity, why you chose their school, how you're planning to contribute to their diverse school community or whatever
And this might be more of a personal preference, but I think it's always best to go for a "more show than tell" approach for college essays! That's the best way you will leave a specific and unique impression on whoever's reading your writing. I would suggest having a list of extracurriculars you want to especially emphasize somewhere in your set of essays and to spend some time thinking about how you can relate a couple of them to the essay prompt!
College essays take A LONG TIME to get a hang of especially at the beginning, and for longer essay with broader prompts like the common app ones. But it's always best to take your time as much as possible!! and to get a lot of feedback from people you trust!! When I was getting started with college essays, I started with my 650 common app essay and it took MONTHS for me to solidify everything. It felt horrible whenever I basically had to start from scratch again bc I didn't like something about my writing, but ultimately I felt good that whatever I was finally submitting was my best work!
It's gonna be a tough process but you'll make it through eventually!!!!! Best of luck to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hey (its already late ik) a lot of people feel unsure about what to write in college essays, especially when they haven't experienced smth they think is "big enough". but there's smth important to understand, college admissions essayd arent about the event itself. In fact, admissions officers often read thousands of essays abt tragedy or hardship. What stands out isn't the situation, its the insight. if you can show that you understand yourself better now, or that you've learned smth valuable abt the world or the people around you, that's exactly what they're lookin for.
If you're a good writer, i think you'd do great writing abt how you grew, what you learned, n how it shaped your goals or mindset. ^^
if i could offer one piece of advice: focus less on the size of the moment, and more on the meaning behind it.
its already midnight in here, sorry if it's kinda shaky, good luck ♡
