Conecpt Albums are so freaking kool

I love listening to concept albums. As a writer and aspiring author, I love seeing how other people go about telling stories. And with music playing a big part in a lot of my stories, I listen to all types, and it has led me to concept albums.

One of my all-time favorites is Halloween IV by Billy Cobb. It's one of his many Halloween-themed albums, and this one hit the hardest. It follows a young boy on Halloween night, from getting ready to go trick or treating, to him and his peers telling scary stories in the town graveyard. But from each song, you find out a lot about how he views this night and why. You find out that exactly a year ago, a girl named Alice, a friend of the narrator, went missing, and it haunts him to this day. He explains that one of the main reasons he goes into the graveyard to tell stories is that he hopes to see Alice's ghost. He explains how light and airy the atmosphere feels, but that there is an underlying feeling of dread and sadness from everyone in the community, and that he, in the past, has went to comfort Alice's parents, trying to help them grieve when he himself is just 10 and is himself in an odd spot having lost a dear friend.

Another really good concept album is Wolf by Tyler the Creator. It's part of a trilogy (dubbed the wolf trilogy by the fans) and it follows a young kid named Wolf Haley in a summer camp for troubled youth. I feel like there are already so many blogs and videos explaining this album and its counterparts, so I won't do it and beat a dead horse. Maybe at a later time.

All of Kendrick Lamar's albums, save for his movie soundtracks, are narrative albums and they eat down.

The Hazards of Love by the Decemberists is another one in my top. It follows a woman who meets a deer, which becomes a man and they fall in love but then some guy (who killed his 3 kids) comes and kidnaps the woman, but the ghosts of his children come to take revenge adn so much more. It's honestly such an odd, but beautiful album
