Peacock hair, Emo & Scene hair, DIY accessories were the pinnacle of teenage and young adult fashion. It was raw and true expression of a person. Making necklaces from hama beads, cutting your own hair, making bracelets and accessories from colourful beads and loom bands, why did we ever ditch this?
When I look at pictures of real emo and scene kids from the 2000s, I'm always so fascinated by the creativity and expression that these people can display from the clothes they wear AND MAKE. This Facebook groupchat I'm in is full of elder emo and scene kids sharing pictures of them when they were teens in the 2000s and honestly it's so nostalgic to look at. I was born in '08 and grew up in the early 2010s when this era was slowly beginning to fade away and I miss seeing people with these hairstyles and clothes. I believed I would be just like them by the time I was a teen. But it's so unique nowadays. I love watching old youtube videos of scene and emo kids just being themselves and doing hair tutorials or just vlogs. tabs24x7Offical, AmberKatelynBeale, ZombieBeatz2000. The low camera quality is just nostalgic for me as my parents didn't have iphones for the first couple years I was born, and so a lot of my childhood photos and videos were taken on a digital camera. I even got my hands on a 2000s camcorder that I take with me when I go out skating or hanging out with friends. I just prefer the quality of them over modern phones, it just feels more raw and authentic and special in a way.
It's difficult to explain, but we moved on way too fast from this era. I wish I could've experienced it a little more.
