Intro + Backstory
HII, I'm Desia, I'm 15 and literally obsessed w makeup and anything related to "beauty" in general. I decided to make this post because I know I've struggled with knowing where to start and what to do, so I want to help teach others! While there is a focus on lash clusters, the beginning will have good information on how to know what lash styles look best on you!
Disclaimer: I'm not an expert or anything, makeup has no rules so any "rules" that are put here are simply suggestions or observations I've noticed! Makeup is about self-expression so honestly js do what you want.
What Looks Good on You
Before we begin, you need to know a few things about yourself to get the most out of this. You'll need to know your eye shape, brow placement (high or low), eye distance (closer or further), natural eyelash "volume," canthal tilt (if your eyes are upturned, neutral, or downturned), and this isn't really as important but how big your eyes are in comparison to your face. This might seem overwhelming at first but trust me this is rlly important!
Lash Lengths
Lash lengths come in various sizes, this often ranges from 4mm up to 22mm! However, most commonly you'll find lashes in the 8-16 range. To know what length looks best on you, you'll want to know how close your eyebrows are to your eyes. It's often recommended that your lashes don't cover or touch your eyebrows when you open your eyes to create a more harmonious look. If your eyebrows are further from your eyes, you can get away with more dramatic lengths (16mm or above), however if your eyebrows are closer to your eyes you shouldn't extend past 14-15mm or you risk it looking unnatural.
Lash volume
Lash volume is basically the weight of your eyelashes. If you naturally have thinner or more sparse eyelashes, you should avoid heavier lashes or else they might feel uncomfortable or weigh down your lashes, which is the opposite of what you want. For those with thicker eyelashes, congrats you can basically do any volume. Another factor is how "big" your eyes are in comparison to your face. While this doesn't matter too much, thicker lashes tend to make your eyes look smaller. So if your eyes are on the bigger side, go for lashes with a higher volume. If your eyes are smaller, go for lashes with less volume.
Lash curl
Lashes come in different curls, this is the part where your general eye shape and canthal tilt matter most. First of all, if you have Almond shaped eyes you don't need to read this because basically any curl works for you guys.
Hooded, Monolid, and Deep-Set eyes: If you have any of these lashes listed above, try L-Curl to give your eyes naturally a more "open" look. Also, if you have hooded eyes a C curl might look good on you too!
Protruding: D curl, not really sure why but just trust me it'll look good.
Upturned eyes: C curl, honestly, I feel like anything looks good on y'all but this looks best
Downturned: D or DD curl to create a more lifting effect
Round: B Curl compliments y'all best, just trust me
Lash Style
There are 5 main lash "styles" that you can ask for (or give yourself). These include, natural, cat, open, doll, and squirrel. Again, your general eye shape, distance, and canthal tilt matter most.
Close Set Eyes: This is when your eyes are closer to each other on your face. If you have this, a classic cat eye or squirrel will look best on you. This is because it gives the illusion of your eyes being further apart, creating a more harmonious look.
Far Set Eyes: This is when your eyes are further apart from each other. Avoid squirrel or cat eye because this will further the distance and instead place the longest length towards the center or inner corner of your eyes or do a Doll shape.
Deep Set: For deep set eyes, go for a "natural" style eyelash. A Doll Style lash will also look great on you!
Hooded/Downturned: Go for a squirrel style lash to create a "lifting" effect! Avoid cat/fox eye as that can do the opposite of what you want and make your eyes look droopy.
Monolid/Hooded: If you have either of these eye shapes, a round eyelash style could look good as well because it makes your eyes look more open.
Round Eyes: If you have more round eyes, a cat/fox eye might look good on you. However, if this is paired with downturned eyes, I would suggest a squirrel lash instead.
Now that we're done with this, we can move on to the actual application tutorial
Materials Used
All materials can be bought at your local department or drugstore. I personally get my materials from Walmart or TJ Maxx.
- Lash Bond and Seal
- Lash Clusters, I use Ardell
- Tweezers that are specifically made to be used on lashes
- Lash Map
Application Tutorial
I'll explain it in steps and also tell you what to do or what to avoid doing so you can have the best experience.
- Apply lash bond to the base of your lashes, do not put it on like mascara. Wait about 30 seconds before applying the clusters to your lashes.
- Grab a cluster by pulling from the base. Avoid pulling from the ends. Then when you're applying, adjust your grip so you're holding it from the end.
- Gently but firmly lift your eyelid up. Start at the outer corner of your eye and slowly slide the lash below your natural lash. You want to put it on the base of your lashes but don't put it on your waterline, so you don't irritate your eyes. It may take a few times to get it on properly and that's okay! You may need to push the lashes up, so they go on properly and that's fine as well.
- Use the tweezers and "clamp" down on your natural lashes and false lashes to bond them together
- Repeat for the rest of your eyelashes
- Once you are done, apply the seal to the base of your eyelashes and clamp down again. If you want it to stay for a really long time what I do is I add the seal onto the tweezers and clamp again.
- You're done! Don't touch your lashes until they fully dry (this can take a while).
Outro
tysmm for reading this! I put a lot of effort and time into this and my research so I rlly appreciate it. If you have any questions about this at all don't b afraid to ask in the comments!
