I hate new cars, here's why:

I hate new cars!

I grew up going places with my dad in his 2011 Grand Cherokee, and it seems like it never got old. The luxurious leather, the glossy wood interior, the sound of clicking buttons and shifting gears. Think a Tuscan house but a car.

New cars now are too techy.

Everything is a touch screen, bright light of screens, TOO sleek looking, too perfect, led lights, barely any textures, no buttons, everything is automatic and self-etc... looking like they came out of roblox, more like a lagging car in GTA San Andreas. I find it so ugly and lifeless :(

Does anyone feel the same? Or am i just too nostalgic?

*I'd love to own an old pink beamer one day, so those who have old cars, PLEASE dont sell them! You have a time capsule, GIVE IT TO ME FOR FREE! XD

I've been thinking about this a lot. Sorting out which modern features and qualities are actually GOOD and which are't, likewise things that older cars do right and what can stay in the past. Basically making the most users respectful vehicle. If you don't mind me making a list here...

- Tactile controls - Old and good. Soo much easier.
- Touchscreen - Depends. Modern implementations are awful and turn regular driving into distracted driving. It should be reserved for tasks you can only do when parked.
- Heads up display - New and good. No need to look down at gauges.
- Purely mechanical engine controls - Old and bad. I'm sorry classic car fans but ECUs are much more flexible and do a better job for all other drivers out there.
- Autonomy - Depends. People make the mistake of depending on it too much when it's not ready to come out of the oven yet. Lane centreing should only work at highway speeds IMO
- Connecting to the internet - New and bad. Automakers do all sorts of nasty things with that connection and everyone should want it gone if they value their privacy.
- 360° cameras - New and good. If it helps people park between the lines I'm for it.
- Vehicle girthiness - Bad. Do I need to explain?

THIS!! New cars are way to techy, i used to drive a 1998 Toyota Tacoma and it was everything I could have asked for; no screens, all knobs, buttons, and the CD player that came with my 8in sub. No electrical indoors other than like overhead/dome lights and the ac. I'm so horribly torn that I wrecked it almost on her 1 year anniversary, but maybe a month or 2 after that with some string pulling I ended up with a 2011 VW GTI which is old enough for me but still too new imo. It's not the same, I hit the gas and since the regular drive gear is a "comfort" mode it'll lag before going and I hate it man. I might just keep driving it in sports mode, idc if it kills my gas, if I need to get out into the road I gotta go man xD

100% agree. My grandma has a 2016 Nissan Sentra which has little tech in it. No backup cam, no lane assist, no touch screen or infotainment. Just power steering, ABS, and TCS. It's great.

I used to own a 2005 Civic LX coupe, which was even more bare bones, with no ABS or TCS and a 5 speed manual. Hella fun car to drive, going 50 felt like I was going 70. I installed a new radio in it so I could play my own music and I was happy.

There was a time when my grandma had to get a rental (a 2022 Malibu), and I have a homie who mostly only owns newer cars and I find myself completely lost in them. Whenever the lane assist and auto braking isn't trying to kill you, you're forced to do simple things in 5 screen taps and 3 different menus on the giant tablet in your dashboard.

Like I'm just trying to crank up my music and the ac at the same time, lol. Guess that's 'outdated'.

I had a 2013 Scion FR-S a few years back. That thing was very analog outside of the electronic power steering. I have a 2017 Subaru Impreza now and this thing is like a spaceship compared to that car. Too many features for me, so I turn all the driver assistance stuff off. Still a good car though.
