so i first heard about this "commonplace book" in a video by Oddly Specific Crystal (i rec check her out if youre into these stuff!)
basically she talks about how you should keep a book (similar to a journal) where you be yourself. sketch some cool things and write how you learned something new in life and some goals. make it like an investigation where you are finding the meaning of life. what you think your life is about.
it doesnt have to be like a diary where you have this overwhelming thought that you HAVE to write in it at 10 pm before going to bed every single day. ive always thought keeping a note of life is amazing but every single day can get a bit too much yk?
Ever since i was 10 years old i would write letters to my older self which is SUCH a good tradition trust me. Its like youre giving advice to yourself which is so satisfying believe me. You have this sense of your childhood self in your mind, how mature she was back then, how she could wander her way through life even though some paths werent meant for her but atleast she tried. You have to keep going. Not for yourself but that younger you. You dont give a fk about yourself? Okay but wouldnt you care about that child inside you? Would you say those stuff to your younger you? So whenever you feel like you hate yourself, just remind yourself if you would hate that lil child.
Funny thing, ive heard from my best friend today is how i influenced them to be confident when i was really young. I was so surprised like damn young manha was a DIVA what happened to her now. And honestly it feels guilty when you realize you flipped off..
Anyways going back to commonplace books/journals, you should carry it with you everywhere. It can be a small pocket book! Get a cheap one cuz ik most of the times we're too scared to use it for "unnecessary" purposes especially if it was expensive. Dont make it something grand. Make it like one of those messy books (that is like dark academia middle age aesthetic lmao) Write in a bad handwriting like you used to write in elementary school. Those have so much more personality to it rather than some neat ahh pages. Write about you thoughts on certain topics of life, such as what you think of people who crave attention/ how to not feel shitty about yourself, when youre feeling like giving out advice (youre giving advice to yourself in this way) You can also video you saying it if you want!
You can write about how you discovered these things today like-
today i realized how my best friend sees the world. He never sees the negative part of people instead always compliments on the positive parts. I just realized nobody in school hates him. Literally no one. He has always maintained a good relationship with everyone nevertheless if they have talked shit about him behind his back. Even though he knows, he never holds a grudge against them. I admire this quality. I wish i had it. I hope i have it. I will not talk to *person name whom you hate* in a bad way tomorrow. I will try to talk to him/her about something else and try to avoid the topic which causes us to distance.
i also wrote about how i found this cool way to sit on a swing and would like to try it (goal) the goal doesnt have to be something big. just some cool stuff you would like to try.
anyways hope yall are inspired to try it out and maybe feel a little less sad in this world <3

I also saw the same video by crystal and I got a book right away. I am 6 months into using it I have already used half of the pages! I carry it everywhere with me as well and I fill it with many things like reminders, quotes, business cards, sketch ideas, and literally anything random I want to remember. It has been one of the best things I have introduced into my life!

weirdly enough, this made me want to cry a bit. specifically the part about the younger version of you, theres so much i turned my back on that younger me would hate the current me for. but this just gave me a bit of hope to continue going back to all of them. this was a wonderful read.

This is so real! Honestly just writing down and sketching is so good to do every once in a while. I know for me it helps me relieve stress when I’m super overwhelmed with life. And your so right when you said it doesn’t have to be everyday before going to bed just whenever that creativity comes to you.
