What if the women of Jojo's were gyaru?
I did another blog about if the mane six (my little pony) were gyaru, so I'm thinking of making this a series where I give fictional characters hypothetical gyaru substyles ! This time, it's women from Jojo's bizarre adventure !
I will be going in chronological order from Part 1 - Part 6 (because I haven't read/watched past part 6 TT)
Part 1:
Erina:
At first I was leaning towards hime, but I actually think she'd suit himekaji more because of the more toned down neutral colours. She doesn't really wear pink that much in the series (Ik hime isn't exclusively pink but it's the most common colour)(and ik there are no canonical colours because colour scans and the anime aren't canon but idc), so the himekaji colour pallette really suits her more. Also, the floral elements really suit her character and I can see her wearing a lot of the clothing if she were a modern day gyaru.
E.g:
Part 2:
Lisa lisa:
In my opinion, onee suits Lisa Lisa the best because of the mature and fashionable characteristics like neutral colours and sleek silhouette. She could also suit mode gyaru because of the similar mature and toned down elements. The style is quite practical, which makes sense for Lisa Lisa because it means she can fight in style.
E.g:
Suzie Q:
I actually think she could pull off hime gyaru, particularly a Jesus Diamante gyaru. The reason I say this is because of the Jesus Diamante pearl necklaces which really remind me of Suzie Q, especially Suzie in part 3. I find that Jesus Diamante wearing gyarus tend to have more of a 'fancy', 'vintage' influence because of the pearls, and slightly more 'first woman' esque clothing.
E.g:
I mean, Keiko looks very similar to Suzie Q in this photo
Part 3:
Holly Kujo:
I'm not going to put an image for her because I think she would mostly fit himekaji, for more or less similar reasons to Erena.
Mariah:
Ora ora (no pun intended) gyaru would suit Mariah the best because of the flashy, intimidating and 'bad girl' vibe. Seeing as the substyle borrows from 'yanki' (delinquent) and 'sukeban' (girl gang leader) aesthetics, it makes sense. Her canon outfit (heels, chunky jewelry and big hair) already lean into the flashy delinquent-gyaru feel. I guess in that sense she could also suit tsuyome, but I just think she would really suit Ora ora.
E.g:
Doesn't the left outfit just scream Mariah ?
Part 4:
Yukako:
Now I don't actually know which substyle of gyaru this is a part of, if it even conforms to any of them, but I think she would suit this specific style of casual(?) gyaru. Now I know the obvious thing to give her would probably be kogyaru but I'm on about what she'd wear outside of school, not in her school uniform.
E.g:
It could be a more casual version of himekaji ? (i know the whole point of himekaji is to be casual already but this looks like a less dressy version of it). Also different variations of this style can also be agejo, but I didn't necessarily want to assign Yukako with agejo because she's a minor.
Tomoko:
Again, I'm not going to provide an example for her because I think she'd suit onee gyaru/mode gyaru like Lisa Lisa (more mode than onee imo).
Reimi:
She would definitely be hime. The monotone pink outfit, the ribbons and bows, the choker, the headband !! She probably has one of my favourite outfits in the series. I can't really think of any other substyle I could give her, apart from Himekaji but I don't really want to keep repeating the same 3 substyles
E.g:
Shinobu:
Again, she'd probably be a himekaji gal. White/cream knitted jumpers are quite common in the style, like the one she's wearing in the photo. Also, the skirt somewhat reads as an old Liz Lisa skirt? Idk, I think it's quite similar.
E.g:
Part 5:
Trish Una (sorry for the miniscule photo idk what's up with that):
I think the closest gyaru substyle that would suit Trish is agejo, mostly because of the colour pallet tbh (I know that she's a minor but I can see her wearing agejo aged up, also she's basically wearing a bra as a top for the entire part lol (I won't forget the nip slip, Araki)). An alternative style would also be onee (I know, I know, you've seen onee being mentioned like 10 times already) mainly because of her boots, they're very onee-esque.
E.g:
Part 6:
Jolyne:
The answer is obviously Ora Ora/baika gyaru lol. Not only is her battle cry 'ora ora', but she was in a biker gang and got put into prison. I don't think I even need to explain any further (also her outfit just reads as ora ora gal to me personally)(and baika gyaru literally just meaning 'biker gyaru', it's perfect)
E.g:
Ermes Costello:
I'd actually say old school/ganguro for Ermes. Now, while that may seem a little random or far-fetched, I think this because her flared pants and bright green+yellow colour pallette remind me of those casual-ish 90s ganguro outfits with the flared jeans and bright neon tops. Also, her braids/locs kinda remind me of what b-kei girls try (but fail) to achieve.
E.g:
(Okay for some reason all the old school/ganguro outfits that I had in mind with the flared jeans suddenly disappeared from the internet TT, but you get what I mean you'll just have to imagine these ones but with flares. I can still see Ermes wearing these examples anyway).
Foo Fighters:
I think amekaji would go best with FF because it's sporty and tomboy-ish, and fits her quirky/goofy personality. FF only has one simple outfit anyway, so I don't really have much to work off of here !
E.g:
Miraschon:
Imo she would really suit rokku and/or goshikku because of her dark hair and overall vibes. Again, not really much to work off
E.g:
(If you wanted to consider styles outside of gyaru for her, goshikku+rokku gyaru kind of border on Vkei, soooo)
Miuccia:
Without a doubt, manba/yamanba. Her colourful, unique mismatched clothes, her hair colour and texture, her flashy make, very manba-esque. Her hair texture kind of reminds me of Gehako in a way.
Anyway, this was a long one, quite a bit longer than the MLP one because there's just so many more characters in Jojo's. This'll probably get no views like the mane six one, but I honestly just do this for my own entertainment. If you have seen this and read to the end, then let me know if you think the characters would suit any other substyles, or characters from later parts that I didn't include in this blog !
