Why is everyone a video essayist or a commentary youtuber(Rant)

Warning: It goes off topic immediately and No in depth explanation

As much as I love internet drama, it’s kind of not fun anymore when the videos are having the same opinions or wanting to be on the “right side”(popular side).I watch long niche videos –like ones, about a movie or series that I’ve watched talking about its secret message or what it really wants to portray, but by the time the video is almost finished and the person is thanking the sponsor of the video, I am like “Did this person only explain the plot or I just have trouble comprehending the video?”

I feel like there are people who noticed that there is a market for these types of videos and started doing it, because why is everyone a video essayist or a commentary youtuber???

Do you guys have any recommendations where the person is actually talking about an interesting topic? Why am I seeing another video about crumbl cookie and how they suck. Most of the time its tiktok dramas, then 10 youtubers with the thumbnail of half body shot with a disappointed/ confused/ serious face + collage picture of the topic.I really appreciate youtubers that talk about something they are passionate or interested in then make effort to research and write about it.

Nowadays, its just “is water wet?” type of videos like with the same explanation “Water is not wet but im gonna explain it to you like i just paraphrased someone else’s opinion without putting any in depth explanation, but even if I plan to, I’ll just explain the history of water to make the video longer for adsense” Of course, It’s also a problem on my part because i keep watching these videos, therefore showing tons of them in my algorithm. Its also not their fault if I choose to waste my time.

A completely unrelated (but also happens in these videos) rant is speaking in a pretentious way. You won’t sound smart with those complex vocabulary per sentence I promise you. A real smart person would make it digestible for the audience instead of beating around the bush. At first whenever i read or hear a person talking using deep english words, I am like “wow they are so amazing! they know a lot of words!” Now I am like “Can you PLEASE get to the point”

Take all of these with a grain of salt, it's just a rant. We all have our own preferences. If you think about it, if this became a youtube video, its gonna be like the ones im ranting about lmao

i reallyyyy like hbomberguy's stuff, although he does discuss real people sometimes, the videos are long but paced well, and not for just the sake of drama. i also really love his videos talking about video games and other things he finds interesting!
but yeah, totally agree, its a very saturated genre (╥﹏╥) i've gotten really used to in the past few years just turning of my recommendations and watching the few youtubers i do like instead of sifting through all the "just explaining the plot of a tv series instead of analysis" video essayists and mr beast copy cats

I feel you, man. Its easy content with overbearing reactions and nondescriptive fillers. Id recommend using more niche / nonstandardized platforms for specific topics. If you're not really looking for anything special, bigger platforms like reddit and discord host some interesting finds if you can locate the servers / resource hubs. I've had a few encounters with interesting channels through youtube rabbit holes as well, if you're willing to put in a little time and effort.
