last week, we had flying ant season. for those that don't know, that's when the queen ants emerge from the nest to fly, mate and then chew their wings off to start a new colony. it all sounds sweet until they manage to fly into your hair and it's like ARGH GODDAMN GET OFF OF ME YOU FLYING HECKING THINGS AAAAAAAAAAAA
so yeah, i locked all the windows, cause i didn't exactly want them getting attracted to jam, sugar or any sweet foods that might entice them you know. and while i can't fly or anything, i do know that post-coital bliss can lead to a snack or two. burning up energy makes you hungry! so yeah, not wanting my living room and kitchen to be overrun with ants during peak mating season, all the windows got locked tf down.
ofc we also had a bit of a mini heatwave this weekend, and i've been working in a freight container for most of last week. well that's the thing about those shipping containers - they're made of thick solid metal and since metal absorbs heat, the mid 30s kinda felt like 100 degrees. i was being flambéed directly in satan's skillet!
anyway, i get home friday evening, take a quick shower and collapse for sleep. well, attempts at sleep were made 'cause it still felt like i was being cooked up something rotten on beelzebub's bbq.
i struggled to get up, save to refill a 3ltr bottle of icy water, chugging the hell out of it before collapsing right back into a pool of sweat. this ordeal went on until early hours of sunday morning when i finally came to the realisation that
THE DANG WINDOWS WERE STILL SHUT FROM FLYING ANT SEASON :O
no wonder this weekend has been so damn insufferable lmfaoo
anyway it's finally cooler, a little breezier, still humid af but tolerable
but autumn and spoopy season needs to hurry up i stg
i'm 100% done with summer now XD

Summer is when you are in your own room in complete darkness, in bed drowning in your own sweat and doing absolutely nothing. Optionally as you camp right infront of your fan that's on full blast if you're priviledged enough to own one.
That's how all my summers go in a nutshell at least (´｡• ω •｡`)

(Looks out, it’s 38 celsius) I think it’s not over yet. These ants sound just as bad as the mosquito invasion. I put up a net, but guess what - the mosquitoes are smart, and now they use the door, which we open to have a bit of a wind. I better not see any ants here, neither would survive my wrath. Like omg, can bugs just get cooked alive under the sun or something, nobody asked for bug invasion

I've been sweating my ass off several times a month since May... I dunno where u are, but Irish heatwaves are not good for low bp or cramps, never mind seasonal depression... But hey, I get off school a whole 3 months, isn't that fun!!

i have a loft room so i’ve just been slow roasting up here by at least there’s lots of cats on my street that i can befriend

Its been a furnace up north too. I keep finding junebugs in my bathroom sink.
neem oil works well as a repellent for junebugs!!
(also a smol saucer of soapy water with a tea light is a v good trap)

omg bugs suck, especally in your hair? actually a nightmare. nothing will ever make me forget the double brood cicada season last year
i dont think there are many places over here that get cicadas, except the new forest nr southhampton

The bugs this year have been the worst, we have been having some major heat and rain as well, so it’s been humid AF.
