3: Current Life Goals (Cars+Japanese)

Okay so there are a couple things in my life I want to do. I just recently flew somewhere to buy a car and drive it all the way home 10ish hours. It was a manual car and I never driven a manual before and wanted to learn. At the dealership, the dealer offered to show me how to drive and I picked it up pretty quick. I LOVE driving stick now; it keeps you so engaged! I am in love with this car but there is a lot wrong with it. nothing mechanically stops it from running, it is all cosmetic things like the armrest broke or the trunk is slightly dented. The big issue though is that the convertible roof is broken, and while still functional, it looks dumb and will leak water when it rains, so I make sure to not park it outside. The repair shop quoted me $9k to fix the roof and that is more than I bought the car for, so I'm kind of peeved about that. I guess it is time to start saving.

About a month ago I decided to learn Japanese because I want to travel to Japan. I started like most people do, with Duolingo. It has been alright, but I really want to start getting into it and learning more quickly. So, I want to update this blog with stuff that I'm learning.

わたしのなまえはpantsです

I think the above says my name is pants. hopefully my self-training got that right haha.

Japanese is such a fun language so far, but my hardest thing is to memorize the 46 hiragana characters. Once I do that, I will be able to read which will make this all easier! I'm pretty decent at remembering what some things mean but seeing them written down is hard for me. Kanji and katakana still mess me up though, and I know I am still a total beginner. If anyone has any recommendations on ways that would make learning Japanese easier, call me a cornfield, because I am all ears. I have started Duolingo and Genki so far.

Anyways, hopefully I update this blog sooner rather than later. Maybe I should use it for practicing writing blog entries in English then below write them again but in Japanese. That will take some time though as I don't know most.

Love you all for reading!

I was learning Japanese a few years ago and found that watching lessons on YouTube and getting workbooks from your local book store helps so much more than Duolingo. The app is okay but it doesn't really provide phrases you'll actually need to learn if you plan on going to Japan. Japanese Pod101 is a great channel on Youtube to start from!
Also this is just something I did for fun but I would watch the news and other broadcastings from Japan to get more accustom to the language :)
