Social Media Addiction, And How It Affects You

I remember my parents telling me when I was 3 years old, I was able to use a computer. Now, as far-fetch as that sounds, it’s possible. I mean... have you heard of the term “iPad” kids? Do you wonder why these kids act so aggressively when messed with or when electronics are taken away?

The reason is that they haven’t regulate their emotions properly. Social media affects children’s emotions by interfering with emotional processing and by constantly distracting them. This is why they become so aggressive.

Social media has also been proven to be made addicting. When deleted, you suffer withdrawal symptoms and distribution of habitual behavior. They affect you mentally and emotionally. Teenagers constantly compare themselves to others and keeping up with trends, more followers, etc. You never have anything to talk about because your friends already know via social media.

These apps don’t only affect kids, but adults too. Parents don’t pay attention to their kids due to being distracted by social media. This affects the children mentally and emotionally, leading to misbehaving, depression, and aggression.

Social media disrupts sleep patterns and school performance. Children constantly being on their phones during lessons and ignoring the teacher. This is why phones should be banned from schools. It also causes social isolation for most. Living on the internet rather than being apart of today's society.

If one wishes to overcome their social media addiction, try mini detoxing. Download an app to help limit your screentime or delete your social media apps. Take a 1- or 2-week break from them. If you are finding it difficult, that is okay. Leave them on your computer so you aren't constantly checking them.

When I mini detoxed, I only kept YouTube (this was before YouTube shorts were a thing). It was difficult and I felt like I was missing out. After a while, I was able to overcome this and focused on my schoolwork as well as social life.

Thank you for reading and I wish you the best!

SpaceHey is a part of my "mini detox" - I use it instead of Instagram so I can still be social but without ADs, endless scrolling, or reels

OH MY GOSH YES. i remember my father gave me unrestricted internet access at the ripe age of 3 and i guess he did have a good reason for it, he knows that technology will advance so he wants me to know how to use it instead of being stuck in the past and not knowing how the world works

Hello! I recognized from one of my last blogs, and I hope you're doing well :] It could've been that or he just didn't want to watch you. My parents allowed me to use the computer because it distracted me and they didn't have to watch me. Not saying your dad is the same, but it's a possibility that is more likely.

Fingers crossed this will be a wakeup call for future generations who will be raised in the age of social media.

I hope so, but it's also helpfully if parents limit them too. They're the main reasons kids become addicted

I need to detox so bad. It’s to the point where I can’t find myself doing any of the things I like to so anymore because I’d rather scroll mindlessly on my phone. It’s sickening

You could keep one social media app and delete the others. It might help! And do mini ones. Like, just take a day off and slowly build up :]
