God is, and has always been a metaphor. Now here’s the question - are you a literal or figurative thinker? Spiritual people may not know, but they answer theological questions metaphorically. What we as a society fail to realize is that God - in ANY religion. - is a metaphor for love, and acceptance, and peace. Because isn’t that what every single religion preaches in some way, shape or form? Divine forces present differently across history, so why do we (using Christianity - my religion - as an example) put our faith in our God, the holy trinity, Jesus, etc instead of the major gods of the past, such as Apollo, Hera, Jupiter, and Venus? Those gods were used to bridge the gap between the known and the unknown in those ancient societies, who did not have the same scientific knowledge as we do now. We use our present day gods to bridge the gap of what we do not yet have, or understand. Do we have world peace? Do we accept our neighbors with no judgement? Do we show love regardless of who it is? Do we treat all people with equity and fairness? The answer is no. But above all things, religion unifies people. But it also divides people. Something we need to notice is that the people who practice kindness and acceptance in their everyday lives, without thinking about it, is that they usually are not very spiritual. I believe that is because they have already discovered what they need to do to bridge that gap between hate and God - I could just as easily have said Love in that comparison, are you beginning to see how they are interchangeable? - those who are still practicing, still learning, still trying, or those who have not done any of those things still need the security and faith that comes with believing in a physical divine force or being. Everything that God embodies can be shown by us to eachother, and that unifying force is what many people feel is the Holy Spirit, or the work of god. Love and acceptance throughout human kind works miracles. So now you decide. Is God a physical being? Or is “God” the earthly miracle of unification through any act of love?
Food for thought.
