A common misconception that a lot of baby gals make is that they have to conform to one specific substyle when becoming a gyaru, when this actually isn't the case as a lot of substyles share similar elements, especially with styles outside of gyaru. One example of this is hime gyaru and lolita, especially sweet lolita !
Exhibit A:

The girls in the photo (particularly the girl to the very left and the 4th girl along) can be seen in egl coords with the cupcake/bell silhouette created by petticoats
Exhibit B:

From old gyaru magazine 'Vanilla girl', she's definitely wearing a sweet lolita coord here, evident by the strawberry elements frequently seen in the style
Exhibit C:
Again, with the pink sweet/maybe even hime lolita dress and an A line(?) petticoat silhouette
plz feel free to correct me if i'm wrong with anything e.g the petticoat silhouettes
This style was fairly popular in the 2010s and many elements were mixed to create the look. Hime gyarus could be seen in sweet lolita coords, commonly from Angelic Pretty. Sometimes the looks could even be classified as hime lolita depending on the amount of lolita and gyaru elements. Seeing as 'hime' translates to princess, and the objectives of both of the styles r to dress princessy, it only makes sense that there r overlaps and the line is often blurred
Not only that, but hime gyarus and lolitas would often hang out as they shared the same interests of tea parties and whatnot, instead of para para parties and nightclubs ! This is what makes hime gal so distinct from other substyles of gyaru, as the traditions of nightclubbing and drinking for substyles like tsuyome, manba etc were often broken. However, u can do what u want as a gyaru, regardless of substyle !
Anyway, if u made it to the end of this blog then i hope u have a sunny day !
