## in my life; full moon sway

This is now a blog. I just wanted to share these songs. inb4 i write a ton about them carlsmile.

(Also, there was supposed to be a highlight✨ before this, but it struck me on this night. Plus, I felt kinda bad about the content of the other one. So here we are).

## that's rough buddy

When I was in high school, it was a rough time. I won't get into all the intricacies here, for now. I'd gone through a ton of things, like changing schools, mental institutions, meds, therapy. Many things I was oblivious to, as it all just felt normal.

My 3rd year, after finally making a choice for myself, I stopped taking meds of any kind completely (straight edge), I started learning guitar (randomly one day), and I'd just transferred to a new school (like some kinda anime protag).

I met a few people, though I never spoke much (basically mute during the detox), and they seemed attracted by the guitar I carried literally everywhere. Someone called it a safety blanket years later, and it made sense. I'd spend a full 2 years studying and playing it alone in my room the entire day.

## at last, was the girl

There were few people I played with for a short time; one was a girl who played bass. She was basically the only other competent musician besides one of the teachers.

She introduced me to a few things I'd take for granted, as I was nowhere near lucid at the time. She showed me Jojos (which I didn't get until years later), Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad (an anime about a boy learning guitar and joining a band; the only anime boxset I ever bought and an underrated series with great songs), and the Beatles, which she loved.

It'd only been 2 years, but our graduation was coming up. She asked me to play a few songs with her at the ceremony. Even though I was pretty good, I wasn't knowledgeable enough to play some songs well, but tried my best.

She wanted me to play "In My Life," the Beatles, and "Moon on the Water" Beck (Mongolian Chop Squad; well technically Dying Breed, makes sense in the anime- anyways lol). We only did the former but I learned the latter later on. I played guitar; she sang and played bass:

## like a baby

I hadn't shown any emotion those 2 years, but after we finished the song and everyone started to say goodbye to each other, I began bawling my eyes out in front of everyone, it was bad lol.

Someone said, "it's ok, you'll see them again."

I barely realized I would never see her again; but I felt it in my soul.

"What a fool, I don't know bout tomorrow... what it's like to be... ahh.

I was sure... couldn't let myself go, even though I feel... the end."

Lyrics from Moon on the Water. Literally one of my fav songs in existence and to play 'til this day. That song carried me through so much and helped me make new friends later on; one I just lost almost a year ago, but who still inspires me. Even now, I tear up thinking about it, let alone when I play it alone in my room at 1am in the dead of night.

I also didn't learn much about the Beatles until a few years later. I learned a few songs, but In My Life sticks with me in the same way; the lyrics hit in all the ways to reduce me a puddle. And the music itself for both songs are sublime and fun to play.

## essay over

I guess what I hope is, if anyone's struggling right now, share a song that means something to you; and write (a little bit lol) about it if you want. That feeling carries so much more than you can imagine. And I wish things to be better for you.

P.s: I love the engrish (sub) version too, but shared the dub since it's easier to listen to lol. Also, funny I wrote this the night of a full moon 🌕 Also, wonder if I hit the character limit yet lol? 🤔 (4225+ for txt, 7000+ for html/?).
