accidentally mischaracterizing

Does anyone accidentally mischaracterize a media they love or a character because I do that all the time and I feel like a fucking idiot. Ig it's not that terrible since I learned more about the character of media, but I still feel foolish for not knowing it in the first place, like do you know how embarrassing it feels to look up the meaning or symbolization in something you read because you didn't understand? Or worse, thinking it's something else when you're completely off the mark. It just makes me feel like a fake fan. Does anyone else feel this way? No way I'm the only one.
