okay so i feel like even though emo is a music based subculture people wont consider you a part of the community if you dont look a certain way.
this is coming from a tweeish emo listener who has been alternative since sixth grade, i usually wear flared vintage jeans, vans or converse and a band tee, sweater or just a cute patterned top.
back to the point, i feel like people who present very emo consider me too normal and people who actually are normal consider me too emo. like just because i dont have dyed black hair and face piercings, or because i dont wear tight black skinny jeans and million dollar early 2000s hot topic band tees bought off depop im not emo enough despite the fact i listen to the music
okay so the question for the very emo looking people is...do you think your less emo if you dont precisely fit the style?

Ive seen dudes who dress like midwestern dads who are more emo than 90% of the people with piercings and straightened hair and whatnot. You dont have to dress a certain way to be emo, just listen to the music and dont listen if anyone says otherwise
