mainly because it lacks that old web whimsy that places like spacehey and friendproject have + i feel like i'm neglecting those sites by posting there instead. i really should just host my own blog at some point but i don't think the imac sat in my room is that server worthy. and my village gets semi-frequent power outages regardless so it'd be unreliable no matter what
also a benefit of these sites is how low-stakes it feels. obviously i like getting interactions, but on here and similar sites i'm much less worried about it than i would be on big sites. but then there's also the fact that the lack of interaction and easy-to-exploit algorithms makes it way harder to actually get stuff out there when you want it to get out there
and also the lack of competitors in general!! bitview would be great if it hadn't taken two weeks and counting for one video to be approved. and the only other seemingly viable option for old web type video hosting is. clipmoon? some service i literally hadn't heard about before yesterday?? and even that still needs a one time payment to let you can actually post stuff (of only £4, but still!!)
bring back indie web, bring back html knowledge, bring back having fun on the internet, yadda yadda.....
(it'll never truly happen, but it's fun to imagine.....)
