layouts pls help

guys. SOMEONE PLS someone who knows at least a little ab coding layouts, how do i fix backgrounds? i'll find a cool one i really wanna use, and when i put it in somehow it ends up just layering it a bunch of times all stretched out??i dont know how to like resize it or something to fix it pls what do i dooooo
