This is my first blog so bear with me, all of these are bands i've known for some time but most people don't listen to chinese music, or know there's such a side to China so it seemed like a cool way to write about songs i like.

The Red Train

So a little introduction about PK14, they've been at it since forever, pioneering the underground and being direct part of the success of many others after them, that's why i chose to start with these legends.

"The Red Train" is a song about silent, sinless youth conforming to their mundane life, in a city clouded by doubt and withering away (very representative of a country like China as you'd expect).

But not everything is gloomy and dark, quite the contrary, the track is a long slow build up that has your head bobbing along and gradually getting noisier with a bit of distortion as the vocals start exploding with emotion, saying "This is the blood of youth", this way showing that they're not dull npcs but people full of vigor dying to let it out.

Honestly i just love the swing of the melody it's so intoxicating and that slow build up hits amazingly every time.

Omnipotent Youth Society

Kill The Shijiazhuang Man

This song is a bit more mainstream, but it's without equal. It has a very deep, sad meaning, and instrumentals that blow you away

Omnipotent Youth Society tells a story about the average working man from Shijiazhuang working until 6pm to provide for his family until one day the building is destroyed, simbolizing also the faith in the chinese structure, as back then these state owned factories were unshakeable.

In this track you get to hear about this man's day to day, his nostalgia for youth, the extent he's willing to go to for his family even without money, then you're told about how this is broken and his mind is thrown into chaos, uncertain of the future

This is too beautiful of a song to do it justice lyrically so i'll take a stab at it musically.

The song starts with a calm guitar melody that has you perk up from the first moment and that beautiful vibratum on the harmonica, then some trumpets come out of nowhere and take it out from the blues vibe into a dance feel as the vocalist starts to hit crazy high notes, as a cello does a counter melody, then they surprise you again with a nasty electric guitar that instantly makes this a rock classic, and a must listen.

This song is one of the most stunning i've heard in the past year and i'd give it a 10/10, props to the vocalist that voice is incredible.

Little Bitch

This is a song about a guy's Little Bitch.

Okay but really, i'm not sure if that's the right translation but it shouldn't be too far from it.

This is a pretty catchy indie song, the guy's vocals has me dancing to it over and over.

I left the music video with the lyrics in it, but this is a song about a guy cheating on his wife with his little bitch, accepting that he sins and he thrusts his wife into an open relationship that was never in her mind.

The contrast between the easygoing slow dance, and the guy basically saying fuck you to his wife and dedicating it all to his new bitch fits perfectly with how i envision this debauchery would feel for the ones participating in it.

I love how liberating the song feels when he says "to hell with i love you, to hell with yes i do, to hell with always with you".
It kind of hits home for a few things and that's why i like it.

Anyways those are just a few of the Chinese songs i like, tell me if you want any other recommendations for any genre, perhaps i'll write about some other Chinese songs next if you guys liked them.
