this summer ive made it a point to watch and read lots of new media, which has created a noticeable pattern. no good story is told without a plot point focused on a major issue. each show, movie, and even book showcases these problems in their own way, so ill be giving my own thoughts and opinions on a couple specific ones.

if you have watched these shows, please give me your own opinions or arguments!!!

HEARTSTOPPER
i found myself understanding the characters while they were each finding themselves. pacing felt right and all the character developments were exciting. one thing that did not feel right at all though was how many of the characters were queer. if anyone was going to relate to the setting and lives, it wasnt realistic enough. it was more of a feel good movie that required problems to keep it interesting.
the show is good and the relationships are sweet, but i feel it tends to get unrealistic. that resulted in me not being able to watch the third season willingly.
EVERYTHING NOW
the way the show begins with accurately portraying the thoughts and feelings of someone who recently came out of recovery is shockingly amazing. the supposed need to catch up with everyone and everything that has moved on without you is represented accurately, especially with all the internal monolog. there are always negatives with the positives, and that is how the aftermath isnt showed to be as bad as it often could be. they manage to make you feel like mia, even if you dont have the same issues as her, which is a huge positive compared to the small negative.
THE SECRETS WE KEEP
the novel hit me most in the way ellas guilt wasn’t loud, it was quiet, constant, and believable. she didnt make dramatic speeches or act like a movie version of grief, she just made one wrong choice and kept walking with it. i could understand why she chose to be maddy, but the only issue with that is how the characters believed it so easily. it felt like a teen version of what guilt really does. it isolates you, makes you think you owe people more than the truth.
if you have any other opinions on these medias or even any others that cover major issues, give your own arguments!
