I have a deep love of Eastern poetry, especially Zen haiku, which I have studied and practiced since I was 19 years old and which has been a perfect fit for my own transient lifestyle as a wandering poet-philosopher (haijin). Here is a haiku that I wrote in Japanese and translated into English.
The first line is the Japanese character language, the second line is Romaji, which is the western character method of spelling out the Japanese characters, and the third line is the haiku in English.
Underneath that is the haiku written out in the Western way of presenting a haiku in three lines.
俳句遠くの森に真っ赤な太陽が昇る
haikuri tōku no mori ni makkana tai yō ganoboru
haiku...the red sun rises in a distant forest
haiku...
the red sun rises in
a distant forest
Expresses how haiku, a national poetry of Japan (the rising sun) is now practiced in many distant countries of the world
