Genre: Hyperpop
Q: How did you get into making music?
A: I had always kinda fiddled around with music stuff. But one day back in 2018-2019 I discovered an artist when I was in my fnaf phase named "Groundbreaking". And eventually I discovered his non-fandom works.
I fell in love with it. Then during that time my dad sent me to an IT Camp for a week, and I got really into a track called "Outcast". I was so into it I would start drawing up ideas for albums BASED ON IT. and that really got me starting to think of music as a thing i wanna do. I for awhile used a website I nowadays honestly dislike called bandlab. I made things for awhile. more early influences came in and stuff like gorillaz.
But one day I discovered deadmau5, as well as Dylan Talchief's deadmau5 tutorial. That, That convinced me to get a real DAW. I started using LMMS and that was when i started taking music way more seriously.
Q: Who are your main inspirations?
A: My inspirations flipflop quite a bit but there are definitely ones that have had a long term effect on me (including one I can't name because they are,,, not a great person). But besides that artist: Boards Of Canada, Deadmau5, 100 gecs, Jane Remover, A G Cook, Underscores, SOPHIE, Radiohead, and like FIDLAR? Idk that band got me to realize i could make angry music;
Oh and, Femtanyl
Q: Are you a self-taught musician, or did you learn instruments/music theory?
A: I'm mostly self-taught. I followed quite a bit of tutorials in my earlier years like that aforementioned Deadmau5 one. Most of Dylan Talchief's tutorials honestly were helpful. But I nowadays rely less on tutorials and try to figure things out myself. Some people in the scenes I am/was in have also taught me things. I have been learning some music theory but not much and not through like teachers or anything. I am also learning guitar on my own
Q: What do you aim to express in your music? Why do you make music?
A: Currently im, trying to move away from instrumental work and do more emotional and vocal led s##t ykno.
I will be honest and saying a big part of why i do music is for attention. But also I will explode if I dont do music at all. Like music kinda the main thing I got. its been my hyper-fixation for almost half a decade now atleast. I'm honestly kinda scared for the future because the attention I want has been appearing a bit although only during periods of time then it goes away. Some day I hope to make this stuff my career
Q: What is your favourite part of composing songs?
A: The stage after I get the initial idea down with an actually good idea. It's feels like a puzzle thats starting to come together as I fit pieces together and make new parts to go in. Not having to worry about "Is this melody gonna be good? Is this not boring?" because that has already been dealt with.
Q: What is the most challenging part of being an artist?
A: Okay so there is three big issues i face. First being I am indecisive as f##K. I often flipflop on what I want to do; I'm really inconsistent with my sound which is really angering and doesn't help with the indecision. My second problem is like making the initial ideas; like the melodies n stuff. When I can make a good one its GOOD but that starting spark is difficult ,and often ill make one thing but I wont know what to add onto it yet to flesh it out more before the puzzle coming together stage. And my third problem being: MIXING AND MASTERING. IT IS SO DIFFICULT OH MY GOD. IDK Why. I try to make something but then IT JUST SOUNDS FLAT IN MY SEMI-OPEN-BACK HEADPHONES. Like it sounds good on speaker. But it has this flatness problem that alot of Dubstep oddly has now-a-days.
Q: If you could give any advice to others making music, what would it be?
A: Two things: First off don't let haters get to you about what techniques you use. If you think having the bass clip the master sounds good, then do it. I had artists complain about that part of my music but thats what i like. and second; DO NOT TOUCH AI (UNLESS ITS LIKE A STEM SPLITTER) OH MY GOD AI IS A NIGHTMARE GARBAGE HEAP FIRE. DON'T USE IT OR I WILL BOIL ALL YOUR FURNITURE.
Q: Do you have any side projects or bands that you are a part of?
A: I've tried starting two bands. Neither have really gone anywhere. and I have a side-project thats somehow more popular then my main-work: XXX_FUR_N30NK4770_XXX where i make hardcore n stuff like that.
Q: And just for fun, what’s your favourite song currently?
A: Oddly that is a pretty difficult question actually. I have been really bumping almost all the songs off of Jane Remover's RevengeSeekerz tho. Crazy Album. Also gonna use this question to shout out some underrated artists: ODAE, Oyster, and Elira.
L1LLY
Genre: Hyperpop
Q: How did you get into making music?
A: So back in like year 7 (like start of middle school fir the Americans) we were taught ukulele in music and that kind of sparked something in ms, I picked up ukulele learnt it a bit, it was fun, then we started to learn abletom, as I went through school I found a deep passion for making electronic music, started to gey more serious in about Yr 9-10, since then I've been really exploring music and audio in general
Q: Who are your main inspirations?
A: In terms of my main inspiration, at this current time I'd say artists like "My head is empty", "øneheart", "flawed mangos", there's a lot more, I could honestly probably give u a playsuit of them, but outside if my main stuff I take inspiration from a lot of hyperpop, dnb, breakcore artists, people like "Gupi" especially with stuff like their paper eater album (ts was peak) other artists like "hkmori" and "goreshit", recently a lot of slowcore artists like "sign crushes motorist" (aka Liam McCay) but as I have said there are more, I can provide a playlist if you want ^^
Q: Are you a self-taught musician, or did you learn instruments/music theory?
A: I'm 50/50 when it comes yo being taught, I'd say in some regards im self-taught and in others I'm not, like there's things about music I did self teach, but I am also teached fir a lot if other stuff such as how to use certain daws and most terms I know
Q: What do you aim to express with your music? Why do you make music?
A: That's a question I don't fully have an answer for due to the fact in still trying to work that out, but honestly a lot of my music is made as a form of therapy, to express my feelings, but with some of it I want to try make people feel melancholy or nostalgia, but I do also sometimes make shitpost tracks If I'm out of ideas, planning on making a page to post that stuff on
Q: What is your favourite part of composing songs?
A: I think my favourite part of composing/making music is seeing stuff come together, accidentally have things go better then I expect due to experimenting in ways I haven't yet, oh ye, also see people enjoy and tell me how much my music means to them
Q: What is the most challenging part of being an artist?
A: The most challenging part of being an artist is a tough question, in someways it is not amazing financially, in others its trying to not get into writers block, or trying to keep your stuff fresh and constantly evolving
Q: If you could give any advice to others making music, what would it be?
A: In terms of advice to others, I think that you should try figure stuff out on your own, try to figure out and analyse what people you love do on your own, it can lead to some really crazy stuff, a good example is the track "snowfall" by "øneheart", he was trying to make a track inspirated by crystal castles, ended up popularising a style of ambient music, tho ic you do get stuck learning look for help, I also think that it's important to make sure ur enjoying what you do, make music cuz it's what you want not cuz your tryna make quick cash or cuz others tell you to. Honestly there's so much advice I could give but I'd be here all day giving it
Q: Do you have any side projects or bands that you are a part of?
In terms of all that I have some collab stuff underway, I'm currently mixing and mastering a few friends tracks, for example I'm currently mixing and mastering a track for starfac3, he's a really good friend of mine, I think people should check him out, but apart. from that I'm looking to get an album out real soon, I think I might want to start a little YouTube series, as well as a shitpost account
Q: And just for fun, what’s your favourite song currently?
A: Last question just had to be the toughest </3, not sure honestly but I'd says "cats" by "my head is empty", it's a track that has inspired me in the past, that I find myself coming back to really often
Elira
(aka 慢动作 or Fly Eli)
Genres: Noise, Hyperpop, Dubstep
Q: How did you get into making music?
A: In my secondary school it was mandatory for us to join some kind of extracurricular music, i chose to do music tech and just absolutely fell in love with it! On my 12th birthday i convinced my dad to get my FL Mobile and since then i've been doing music production as my biggest passion.,
Q: Who are your main inspirations?
A: changes a lot for me! right now it's got to be Ramzoid, Gao the Arsonist & Grim Salvo for my vocal-led stuff and for my dubsteppy stuff then definitely Eptic, Space Laces and just sort of my circle of peers, S0mbra, Scavenger, Hemeltijd, everyone at Unbeyond Anthologies really. My friends are very talented!!
Q: Are you a self-taught musician, or did you learn instruments/music theory?
A: Completely self-taught! Didn't know a lick of theory when I started and still don't really know. But i've been asking some knowledgeable people for help while I work on a jazzy album EyesEmoji xddd
Q: What do you aim to express with your music? Why do you make music?
A: My music is a lot of things! It started as an escape and quickly became a passion where i got to tell stories and showcase emotion through sound. Often that can be quite aggressive and angry, but sometimes it can be lulled and passive. It can really be anything that I feel and if others relate to that, that's extra special. i guess that's the goal. Music is therapy 🤭
Q: What is your favourite part of composing songs?
A: VOCAL MIXING!!!! seriously go listen to what Ramzoid is doing on his album SAUNA and you will see that the kind of vocal mixdowns im gonna be coming out with in new songs are heavily inspired by him, its so fun :3
Q: What is the most challenging part of being an artist?
A: The (lack of) comments!! or just any lack of attention, it can be hard. its so easy to get caught up on that kind of thing.,
Q: If you could give any advice to others making music, what would it be?
A: Music Is A Selfish Act First And Foremost!!!!!! Put yourself first and the fans who like your style of music will come, NEVER CATER TO OTHERS!!!!
Q: Do you have any side projects or bands that you are a part of?
A: I'm in so many groups that have made one song and never gone past that :\ but for sure i want to join a metal/rock band as a vocalist... i'm about to premiere/debut my Akita Claws project which is where i'll be moving all my vocal stuff so like a lot of pop and hip hop.. watch my bandcamp!!!
Q: And just for fun, what’s your favourite song currently?
A: I'm OBSESSED with Пауза by Kambulat... absolute SLAPPER >:3
Glittervomit
(aka ♫⃠ NEUROSURGEON ҉ ♫⃠ ΘΔ, Puppyzilla + other projects)
Genre: Metal, Noise, Cybergrind
Q: How did you get into making music?
A: I got into making music around the time when I was experimenting around with in built / website daws such as bandlab, soundation, and soundtrap, although just Soundation. I started out making a lot of weird wonky stuff at first until I got into using ableton which was recommended by someone who kinda had done a lot of bad stuff at the time. But, I started out messing around with that. Sooner or later, I met a friend of mine who gave me their account for me to get ableton so I didn't have to buy it at the time. This was when I started out making drum and bass, and other styles of music at the time which will come later into becoming a neurofunk artist which didn't do well at the time since I was still fairly new to the genre. I also learned a lot of shit from people specifically in music production communities and servers, which really helped me out and I started to do a lot better in that regard.
Several years later I started getting into harsher styles of music, specifically ones in more of the metal, hardcore punk and noise music and started trying to make my own metal / hardcore / noise music inside a DAW. Which was when I heard of cybergrind which became my main genre. Eventually I started to sound design my own guitars and stuff, and now started to learn how to do vocals. And I now practically make many different kinds of music, both in the electronic and metal scenes. I'm now getting into doing screamo / skramz, and emo music.
Q: Who are your main inspirations?
A: A lot of my main inspirations, I have many, but for electronic music I'd say Pendulum, Noisia, State of Mind, Co-Akira, and a lot of stuff there. As for metal/punk music, in mind I had Gulch, Spy, uhh The Bezerker for cybergrind, Phyllomedusa for grind/goregrind and Sulfuric Cautery, Cannibal Corpse, and I think others but I kinda forgot most people I had inspiration from. Most of the time I just inspired myself with different genres of music. Oh and a lot of furry gabber stuff.
Q: Are you a self-taught musician, or did you learn instruments/music theory?
A: I am self-taught, have been for much of my life, and haven't tried learning music theory or instruments yet, but I learned how to use my ears and my experience to organize / layer my sounds into something that had rhythm, progression, or sound.
Q: What do you aim to express with your music? Why do you make music?
A: I often make music to express my alienation to the world around me, especially when it became clear when the US has becoming more hostile for many different queer and lgbt people, but it's also to express myself and protest, and often make music that break rules of what can be considered music. Which came to the term anti-music when I did more of my noise stuff, which came from the Make noise not war scene inside of grindcore, hardcore, and noise spaces.
Q: What is your favourite part of composing songs?
A: My favorite part when it comes to making or composing music is a lot of the ways you can use sounds to create different atmospheres, soundscapes, and environment. I also loved the many ways how you can design your sounds especially in different genres. It's really fun, and I also love it when other people use their creativity and sound designing skills to make really interesting music. Especially since I was a neurofunk artist back then, so most of the time I was designing sounds to use in my music.
Q: What is the most challenging part of being an artist?
A: I think the most challenging aspect of being an artist is when it comes to making music you sometimes have to put out a lot of stuff, and a lot of work when it comes to perfecting the sound, and sometimes at a point where you can burn yourself out, or become unmotivated or have a creative block. Another thing especially is if your trying to make this your career where you have to sometimes spent a lot of time creating the community you want, interacting with your fans and sometimes trying to earn music. But that is incredibly difficult to do especially if no one really knows you that much or haven't spent time building connections with people, and it takes a lot of time to do it.
Q: If you could give any advice to others making music, what would it be?
A: I'd say try to not burn yourself out, always take breaks when you can, and if you can't think of anything to do because of not being motivated enough to do something or have a creative block, do nothing and take a break until you feel like you can come back to it and continue. Also do not focus too much on the mix or master, sometimes overcomplicating it can make it hard to get a good mix, if you must you can just use a eq / compressor, and a limiter and some saturation and that's it. Also always try to be yourself, do not take things too seriously sometimes, it's just fun that way.
Q: Do you have any side projects or bands that you are a part of?
A: I have a lot, I started out with NEUROSURGEON before moving onto Glittervomit and many other projects, I'm also in a few bands, specifically Thanatron and 7ance. I think I have like 7 or 11 aliaes so far.
Q: And just for fun, what’s your favourite song currently?
A: Rigor from Morose4's Rigor / Solitude single when it comes to my own aliases, and also The Berzerker - No One Wins(speedcore, gabber, cybergrind, grindcore, and death metal), and Cuntsniffer - I’m Already Saved(chiptune/screamo)
