I Watched Final Destination for the First Time

I have to stay up kinda late for my job because they really like putting me on night shift. So I was bored but couldn't go to sleep yet so I decided to watch Final Destination for the first time. I remember my mom being a massive fan of these movies when they first came out, so I've seen like bits and pieces of them when I was a kid, but I never really sat down and watched any of them. Well, the newest one is in theaters right now so I decided I may as well watch the first one tonight.

I love horror and thriller movies. I don't scare very easily (at least not when it comes to movies lol) but I like the atmosphere of them. I like seeing cool effects too, and I REALLY like cheesy schlock in anything I can get it in. The less I have to take it seriously the better.

That being said the first Final Destination movie is so SILLY. Like if I was old enough to see it when it first came out in theaters (I was not) I would've been so obnoxious. I think I would've laughed loudly at so many death scenes. People would've thought I was a sociopath. But like can you BLAME me??? This scene had me cackling. Like OMFG-

Anyways I'm glad I watched it. So much shit was so fuckin on the nose but like I said, the cheesier the schlock the better. I just think its kinda funny how half of the fanbase talks about these movies in like how freaky they are and the other half talks about how silly they are. I think you can guess what camp I'm in.

On a teenier bit of a more serious note as well, (TW for this whole paragraph btw) I find it very interesting how close it mirrored how people react in real life tragedies. I'm sure that's the point, every character reacts to the plane crash in the many different ways people cope with tragedy. They all represent different kinds of reactions: gratefulness, denial, survivor's guilt, trying to make sense of it like a conspiracy theory, it's all there. But, I can't help but think that if this movie was delayed only a little bit in production, it probably would've had to be canceled. It did come out in 2000 after all, and after 2001 a lot of movies and TV shows that had to do with planes had to be edited or canceled. I bring this up because the scene where the main character is just wide awake watching the news about the plane crash is so... eerie. Because that's how people reacted to 9/11. It's eerie because it only came out a YEAR earlier, y'know? Just something I was thinking about. Because like whenever I go on a plane I feel a lot of empathy for the people on those planes. Like I would've been so scared. So like, I think it's interesting that a year before the attacks, the scariest thing people could think of happening on a plane was it exploding. But as it turns out, humanity's own evils are the ACTUAL scariest thing that could happen on a plane, and people would only find that out a single year later.

Back to less serious stuff though, I think the way the movie ended was so goofy that I genuinely would've busted out laughing like crazy in the theater. Simply lost it. Even if i failed to take it seriously (aside from my tangent up there, its just how I interact with some stuff) I really liked the movie and I'm glad I watched it. I'm gonna have to watch the other ones soon. If I remember correctly, the one my mom was always watching when I was a kid was the third one? I remember the rollercoaster and a tanning bed scene, which I think is the third one. It'll be nice to watch that then. I wanna watch them all now hehe
